Brock-Lee
my lower spring perch had a big ass grub screw that I could mock things up but I ended up just doing the just captive and then move it down a bit for mo slam. I would run some calcs just in case so you have a rough idea of where things sit but I am weird and take way too long to do anything. bogangeof
Didn't read the last few pages but I used s1 r7 inserts shortened 15mm in my 1200 sedan coilovers (same sleeve kit as you). Could put the sump bolt 30-40mm off the ground at minimum I think. If i shortened the leg more the sky/ground would be the limit.
Beaver
Good stuff! Yeh the s1 rx7 inserts are very similar size to the vw golf inserts Im looking to go with (the golf ones are actually shorter!) so I dont think I will have any issue getting it low enough. Truenotch
Vw inserts are the business. I think Polo is an option too.
bogangeof
Also with sectioning and such, I didn't bother i just cut a new thread in the strut body. Had plenty of meat in it.
Beaver
Yeh I have often wondered why most people cut and shut/that's my plan to cut and shut. I guess its easier to find someone to weld things than to cut/lathe up a thread that big.
Snoozin
I have Mk1 Golf inserts in the KP struts, they're radically short.

Brock-Lee
Stop mucking around with stuff that isnt final. Cut the struts down and get them welded up and then throw your legit short shocks in and have another play. Do you reckon a couple of hose clamps around the strut tube would take the weight of the car to test it? I like testing things before gluing them on with metal. Raizer
Do you reckon a couple of hose clamps around the strut tube would take the weight of the car to test it? I like testing things before gluing them on with metal. A decent T bolt probably would
bogangeof
Just push the sleeve 10mm from the top and weld it, itll give you plenty boss. Mine was that height and has max slam. And your inserts are shorter EDIT: Do 30mm just to be safe my lock collars are close to the botton of the sleeve.
Valiant
I'd be tempted to tack weld it all together and trial fit it. It's not to hard to grind a couple of tacks off again. What are you going to do with the rear?
Beaver
I cant weld hah. Rear will be reset + eyes flipped + extra leaf/ whatever is needed.
