Beaver
I dont get what are are getting at but I think Ill just have to believe you.... manifold is nothing abnormal....looks just like my a12 one, just different ports (oval). runners are 90 degrees from the head. Also how can you tell from the video? lol
RUNAMUCK
See how the plenium is below the centerline of the intake ports? Fuel like to follow a path going downhill.
Beaver
pfft marginally. Just went and had a look and they are 99% perpendicular to the head.
kyteler
Did you change the distributor over as well or just the add-ons? Just thinking that perhaps the weights/shaft on the dizzy could be fucked.
Spencer
If Ky is correcto you should be able to rule this out real quick watching the advance on the timing light. Sounds like something more though if its having a spaz off idle?
Beaver
Dizzy is the one that came with the a15. Will go see what heppens to the timing when I rev it. I thought a12 and a15 haf differnt dizzys but ky what you rekon? Just stripped and cleaned carb, seems to be a bit better, some of the intake mani bolts werent tight so perhaps a small vac leak as well
Beaver
timing advances to 20 + when revving. Seems legit. THere are still big exhaust leaks so its could actually be OK and just sounds worse
kyteler
Unsure about dizzy differences, it does ring a bell but.. yeah, don't know. Drive round and we'll throw my one in there for a test. ...oh wait. Easy enough to whip them both out and check lengths, etc. Even if you pull the A15 one out and check for play/slop in the shaft compared to the A12 one. Worth a look anyway. Beaver
I think physically they are the same but have different weights etc. But yeh, will pull dizzy out and compare. Have another spare a12 one as well
RUNAMUCK
Dumb as fuck question, but do you have the vaccuum nipple on the front of the manifold (to number one cyl) blanked off? I sold a mint engine on the tard once, and the kid came back crying about running on three. There's a nipple on the front of the manifold that goes to the bimetalic spring thingee on the air cleaner. If it aint blocked, it'll drop number one like your sister after a one night stand.
Steelies
get your running issues sorted beave?
Spencer
Yea Beave whats up?
Beaver
Seems to be better, havnt tried swapping dizzys or anything yet. As Its not currently road testable and has a poorly functioning exhaust (so is hard to tell what its actually running like) I have opted to wait till I can drive it before worrying about fiddling with all the little stuff haha. Ive shifted it in and out of the shed a few times and it seems OK under load. Also going to get one of those point replacement kits so will have another fiddle after that/pay day

Spencer
If it fits chuck that known good running A12 dizzy in it? fuck different weights etc.
Beaver
yeh probably should. I think mixture is up the duff as well and carb doesnt seem to play ball that well (ie no notable difference when trying to set mixture screw)
Spencer
You mean idle screw? can be hard to notice a difference sometimes, carb came with this engine? if its the OG carb it could have leaky throttle shafts which means the idle screw wont be doing much. Beaver
yeh, idle mixture I guess youd call it. Yeh carb came with engine. When you start it it sounds like its on 3 (runs like a bag of balls) for about 30 secs then it clears up, what could be causing that, fouled plugs? Steelies
sounds like my/an old car. ugh, twiddling carby things. want to use a colourtune? ie transparent spark plug for reading flame colour/mixture. super oldschool, super silly, super cool. interested to hear reports once driveable.
