yoeddynz
That little box that was sitting with the engine when on the trailer.. What is it? Looked quite small. I vote manual box for your car because it's still actually quite a small car compared to new heaps of shit and should be well fun with the 1uz
KKtrips
G52 - and yep I'm going manual for sure. I figured out how I can easily adapt a hydraulic clutch master to my pedal box - as can be seen by the photos of a VH and VL pedal box I put on the build thread - they are identical except for the VL one has a hole for the master cylinder to locate in.. I just need to drill the hole in the firewall and pedal box then a hole in the pedal itself for the pushrod clevis to go into. Going to use a concentric bearing from a Mondeo or similar. VH pedal box - Cable VL pedal box - Hydraulic
yoeddynz
Yeah that's pretty much what I did with chevette and viva to convert to hydraulic. Simples.

yetchh
can I ask why you want to go with a 1UZ over an ls/lt or any other of the variety of chev engines available?, besides price and the fact that none are quad cam.. what is the attraction of the 1UZ over chev?
yetchh
sorry, the Cadillac had a quad cam northstar engine..
KKtrips
Because one was available for less than a LOT - can most probably do the entire conversion with cert for less than the cost of an LS1 motor and computer alone - plus a 1UZ does sound pretty fuckin sweet at 7500rpm..
yetchh
ok, that makes sense.. the sheer availability of 1UZ's and parts is pretty attractive and if you can get one cheaper than cheap.. no brainer, I've just been searching for quad cam northstar v8s and I can't find any haha.. cletus
chevs are a bit of a prick to get in a commode. starter motor requires same real estate as steering rack as well as sump/oil pump clearance issues. you can get a kit to put an older smallblock chev in one which requires the crossmember to be shifted down which cocks up the steering arm angles if its lowered at all
yetchh
looking on tardme, there aren't even that many holden 5.0's and the besides the cheaper one they're all over 2k... mmm, deffo 1UZ no brainer
KKtrips
Yeah I checked all that out- the T5 gearboxes are $2K vs a W/G5X for $500... even more no brainer..
yetchh
308s are cheap as chips in aussie haha, I would have thought that with the amount of aussie big sedans in NZ that there would be more 308's, guess they were less of an option over here.. Lincooln
I gonna say, just for the love all all things good, don't do a 1UZ conversion, please. I am sick to death of seeing that number and digit round everywhere. Still I know why you would do it, and if you do, make sure you supercharge that shit. Brings so much more life to these engines

KKtrips
I only have half that place - the other half has a boat in it.. But yeah its entirely adequate to work on cars and store crap and do perks - but not all at the same time.
