RUNAMUCK
I my pile of spares, I have a diff from a crown like yowzer's one. Is there an LSD head available for these bad boys?
Crownin_Round
Yeah either modify an IRS lsd nugget to suit or very rarely estima lsd's... Or aftermarket but you would have to scour e-bay or yahoo.jp...
RUNAMUCK
what flavour of IRS would I need to hunt out? Toyota stuff is totally foreign to me. Also, what kind of lsd are they? anyone got any links to what mods gotta be done?

sheepers
anything F series. MA61 is the most popular. but they are not common, that "def rattle" was selling one a while back that was fucked, he still wanted moonbeams for it. they are around, you just have to keep your eye out for them. i guess youd pay 400-500 for a good one?? spence, what do you reckon? Crownin_Round
Not quite Spencer but that could be a starting price, Ive moved one for $300 before but it wasn't flash and it was clutch type. The easier option, as long as you don't mind not having a hardcore LSD is Estima "F series" live axle diff's, usually the LSD ones are disc break too! Look for codes on the engine plaque ending in 3's or 5's ie F283 or F285, 3 denotes 2 pinion LSD and 5 is 4 pinion LSD..
Spencer
If your not wanting it for D1's just traction then go a torsen from an altezza there's no modifications and they only go for ~$300ish. No mods needed, dropped one straight into the soarer housing, at worst in a live housing you may have different bearings. Factory F clutch LSD's are stink you can shim them up and they will hook 2 but when cornering they unpredictably let one go, no ramps. If you want to D1 you need a TRD, Cusco etc centre proper clutch LSD all still available new

thegreatestben
Lots of people seem to buy truetracs. There was a TRD lsd for one for sale out've a gx71 GT. Tama autos' was selling it though so they wanted ~$1200.
Yowzer
Just stole this from the turbo ke35 auction Shortened Toyota F Series diff (from a Crown) with LSD internals from an independent rear end CelicaHigh ratio (4.3:1 ?) crownwheel fitted so flies through the gears Went with this setup instead of Hilux diff as the F series is a clutch pack LSD and already has disc brakes
Crownin_Round
Lame at clutch pack, as above my MA61 LSD would always drop a wheel mid D1. The IRS LSD nugget is wider to accommodate the floating axle, so you have to modify it to suit for solid. Don't know exactly what that involves, some re-shimming, could ring the diff shop or somewhere that specializes in diff's in your area. Yep Christchurch.. don't get them to do the work though they are foooorking expensivo
Spencer
^ theres no re-shimming on a live F series it has adjustment. Think your confused only difference is the bearing sizes with some heads. this is marks (ae25 on here?) altezza head in a live F housing And yea yowzer ma61 etc clutch pack lsd's are lame just like lux G series ones. Tru tracs are a good solid unit if you want a torsen but will let one go doing skids, good for track work. Mine was awesome in the soarer. TRD still do G series LSD units new as do a few other aftermarket brands, guess its the only way to go if you only want a LSD for skids. For me the torsen unit is much nicer on the track traction wise

Tama autos' was selling it though so they wanted ~$1200. that was a G series 1 and he ended up selling the whole subframe and diff for about $900 in the end, was a sweet buy! Spencer
^ yea not exactly common to find a G series rear end for a x7 chassis
ryanfels
specialy with a TRD lsd already set up in it
Yowzer
This is what ya need if ya want a diff for skids. Can't say I have a use for an LSD at this stage, car ain't a track weapon and I doubt it could ever pull a skid with its shitty auto box. Good to know for future reference though

drftnmaz
while were on a close subject can you buy good aftermarket lsds for a hliux diff? theres a guy around that does escort stuff, he makes ramps for hilux diffs, send him your standard lsd and he'll replace the sping loaded center thinging with ramps, bout $600? prob more by now... Roman
Yeah I put an Altezza cusco 2 way in my F series live axle, fit up sweet! No modding required. And yeah, TRD G series LSD that Tama Autos was selling was fucking mega, worth every cent for who ever bought it IMO. That'd support some biiiiiig power going through it.
