Removing Windscreens?

Removing them is the easy part getting them back in is he challenge.

For removal just remove the locking strip (if this it the type of system your car has) and have someone push it out from the inside, sitting in the seat and using your feet i found works best and start at the corner working your way accross the top very easy, ideally you need another outside as a guide and catch the window if it suddenly pops out which happed with gazza's vet.

Installation is a hole different story/very difficult IMO

fuck that sounds an expensive way to do it BDA

i found the feet trick works sweet with my corolla, poped out no worries and never showed any sign of flexing enough to break, dont do it if you have any cracks/chips tho id say.

as for putting back in, its difficult but not to hard once you have the technique, what i find works best is if you fit rubber to window then put string in the slot that the window is to lock into and sit window in place on bottom and make sure you got your string inside with you then get where the string is starting and start pulling it out this pulls the rubber back and allows you to pop it over the metal and into place, might take a few trys to perfect it but is easy once u get hang of it.

Ive never done a windscreen but I did my hardtop which is the same theory with smaller glass. Once I pulled the locking strip out I heated the rubber in one corner so I could push i out there then the rest came out easily.

Putting in was the same theory but alot more difficult. Id do small windows again but dont think Id bother with a windscreen, easier to get a pro to do it.

If your going to follow Chris's method put a rock on the windscreen then hit the rock rather than hitting the windscreen directly. That is if you have glass cover anyway

theres the oldschool method of putting in windows and the newschool way, os way take out the strip and push with your feet from the inside, newschool method you put a wire outside to inside and pull around the edges(unless you have the right wire, this is ultra hard)

I will pay someone to put the stuff back in, on my escort the rooflining also sits behind the top of the window which makes it a bit harder too

I cut the front screen out of a mitsi chariot for derby car. worked perfect it was just a cunt to get through. We had to cut a section of rubber out and force a stiff bit of wire through and then push sime mountain bike brake cable through then use that. Once it was through it made it piss easy.

Removed a few too many Screens (all derby cars),

Best Tools needed:

Supercheap "Windscreen Removal Tool" = $25 I think

Kitchen knife (make sure its sharp)

Choke/Throttle/Boot/Bonnet Release Cable.

Hot water + dishwashing detergent

With the cable you need to make a slit in the rubber and poke the wire through, and then tie each end around a pole to hold onto (two person job). Use a sawing motion, make one person do the cutting with the other person just pulling back/tensioning (when sawing aim majorly in the direction you want to go, dont just go the same angle doing nothing)

Hot knife with detergent works wonders. Supercheap tool is for the real cunty ones..

Also, if there's the tacky rubbery gunk silicone shellac type shit in there, then white spirits will dissolve it given a bit of time. That's how I got the window out of my parts C110, white spirits and a sharpened putty knife.

If you're using the sharp knife cutting the rubber seal technique (which does work well, I've done it) be careful as it requires a lot of force and lots of force on sharp knives will inevitably end in distaster, as happened to a mate who stabbed himself in the hand doing the same.

Also, when doing the string in the seal trick to get the screen back in, mix some water with a bit of washing up liquid and put it in an empty household cleaner spray bottle and spray liberally around the seal before you start. It makes it a lot easier to pull the string out and will dry away to nothing once you've finished.
