Bistro
Can't you buy it back off the insurance company? How will you get you're wheels back etc if you can't? Pretty sure they auction it at turners damaged vehicles or depending on how bad it is they just wreck it. hopefully this wont happen and gaz will be able to keep it and get a payout or something. It's generally only auctioned off after the insurance dealings are sorted. You just have to make sure the insurance company knows that you want to buy it back, if they don't know it will just be put through the system with the countless other cars that are written off and sold at auction. fuel
shit man yeah that's some pretty nasty damage right there - I can see how close the gap is between the rear door and the wheel arch. I hope you come out better off from insurance, you shouldn't be out of pocket because of something which wasn't your fault.
Gaz
Yeah but I prob will be His insurance company is going to value it low I feel. The list price the insurance companies give the car is $1500 !!! The work done to fix my one I would say would be around $4000-5000 depending. Im pretty sure they will write it off and try and give me $1500, perhaps if I argue $2000 I really hope if Im getting dicked that my insurance comp will stay by me and help get more from the other company. I mean in reality even 10k to fix it top notch isnt fuck all to a huge insurance company like State!

It should be get quotes for how much to fix it and they pay that amount to get it fixed or pay you out for value of car/not there value of car. fuel
go to a car dealer who deals with classic cars, get it valued - you'll find someone who will be able to see what condition it was in before hand, and who is able to take the modifications and certification into account. With a proper valuation on paper the insurance co will have to abide by it, even if it's for 5k it's better than $1500. I was in the same situation when my sigma gsr-x was written off years ago by a drunk crashing into me, insurance co only wanted to pay $3000 or something real low, but I got it valued by the car dealership who sold it originally, and by looking at the interior, engine condition etc (even though the exterior was completely smashed up) they were able to come to a value of $6.5k. - i5oogt -
hey gaz, sorry to see what happened with your cortina, if you like i can arrange a vaulation from the cortina club, as even at $6k you are short changing yourself.... also if you do end up fixing it yourself get in touch as i have 2x cars im wrecking so i have heaps of bits and pieces. thinking about it i also have access to a 67 4door body shell. its really rust free and may be a good way to fix your car especially if the chassis is bent. cant you also insist that your car be fixed, based on that it is a very rare car and impossible to get another in the same condition with the same specs etc... anyway let me know if you want a valuation sorting.... the same thing happened to a guy down here a few years ago... but we got him a fair settlement from the insurance company... cheers Karl
Gaz
Cheers Karl might be interested in the shell or if not some parts. Have rang my insurance company this morn and they cleared alot up. He said... take heaps of photos and send them in with a list of things stuffed and possiably stuffed (chassis) Then they get a value to fix it and send the quote to the other guys insurance company. If they decline this and try to write it off thats when the trouble begins. This is when I will get valuations etc done of the car and its up to me and NAC to prove to the other company that my car was worth more than what they have written it off as. He also said I will get first dibs at car if it is written off and I will most prob get it for round $200 Could be a good thing.. car back and 6k ish? not that I can really be arsed swapping a car over and then getting new cert etc. Gaz
