17 to 1 at full throttle is no good. dont do it.

timing wont effect afr too much, more timing isnt best, correct timing is lol.

but correct timing is unknown with out testing. so just let ya dyno man do it.

what is the fuel ratios at cruise speed and part throttle?

this is why fuel injection rules!

yes I realise fuel injection rules, but its a bit late now, at least for the time being. The dyno session was weird with everyone arguing about motorbike carbs and only doing a couple of runs due to afr and not wanting to blow stuff up, so I dont know the ratios in other areas, I really need a new dyno man. Maybe i'll try homewood and see if hes interested in looking at bike carbs

17 is too much. running lean will make it run hotter and likelihood of detonation if/when you have to put your foot down. but yeah basically sounds like not enough fuel. have you got a pressure regulator in there? tried taking it out just to see what happens?

probably on the right track with the jets though.

also dyno guys can be pretty cagey as they dont want to blow up your motor and have to deal with that. you could maybe try murray and weber specs or the shop on carlton gore rd. but I guess time is pretty much up. also they might be a bit cagey with a car on bike carbs and try to sell you a couple of grands worth of webers and manifold etc.

I am getting the jets from murray, he almost blew his nut today when i told him about the carbs on the engine, was raging about how people shouldnt do it etc short stroke, fast acceleration, high revving bike engines only etc, but apart from some flutter of the slides I cant really fault the things. And I can mostly stop the flutter but rejetting the vacuum orifices

right at the moment I am just hoping the jets will be big enough to discourage lean running over the nats then I will look more proper tuning

Could lifting the needle height a bit help with this? Maybe not because the jets just can't flow enough at high rpm?

edit: also lols about that dude being all septic, you'd think he'd be happy to help instead of being so negative haha

lifting the needle only helps down low which is ok, so with these bigger jets I will lower the needles to give less fuel down low as it starts spitting fuel out the intakes at idle

He is pretty good to deal with, was just raging at the people who wrote the magazine articles about them without knowing the real pros & cons etc

haha yes, horse25 said something about having a w50 gearbox conversion kit, but I think we'll stay with the standard for the moment as it shouldnt have been able to break that box, so I think it must just be bad luck

thats besides the point though, why werent you at nats mister
