  1. OK team, it all starts this weekend and I thought I would kick off my first build thread post. I got my first car when I was 16. A poo brown 1979 Mk2 1300 4 door. This was alright for a while but it wasn't long before I managed to find a red 1980 Mk2 1600 Sport. This was purchased for $1000 and had a wof and everything. I put in my race motor and raced round the streets of Wellington. I think it was the loudest car around. Unfortunately rust was ripe in the Sport and I figured, being an apprentice mechanic, I would strip it down, fix the rust and rebuild. Well stripping it down I found it way worse than I imagined and it got brushed to the side while I found myself a new toy. The car got sold as it was and that was it. What an idiot I was. I always regretted selling it and when I finally decided to try and get my hands on another, prices had skyrocketed and I have spent the last 17 years always keeping my eye out but the dollars asked for anything close to what I want was well out of reach. In December, my wife was dropping a colleague home and spotted something red with a Ford badge in the corner of their garage. She asked what it was and it turned out to be the husbands 1980 Mk2 1600 Sport which had sat there for around 10 years. She came home and told me about it. I had her arrange a visit for me despite the car not being for sale or anything and a week later he had pulled it out of the corner and I was looking over this thing. It was stunning. It had a pretty average respray on the exterior which was starting to bubble but all the usual rust spots were incredible. Then, he asked if I wanted to buy it, things fell into place and it now has a new owner. The idea is to take it back to showroom condition. The photo of the paperwork it has is pretty much a testimate to just how good this car is. I will build a bit of a build list but will pull everything out, start a shopping list, freshen the motor, rebuild brakes and do a respray and see where we end up. I will keep this as up to date as possible but I can not wait to be out cruising the streets of Wellington with my wife and daughter in what is pretty much my dream car. https://oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/58013-bams-1980-mk2-escort-1600-sport-discussion/
  2. Hi there I have a 105e, I got her for $500 on my 16th birthday ('91) She is original, 997cc of goodness. She was taken off the road in 02 and will be sitting her WOF in the next few weeks. (Reg is on hold). My plans are a respray, new carpets, some period bucket seats a different carb (prob a weber 2 barrel) and some extractors and I have an exhaust system with 2 cherry bombs waiting to go in when I get the extractors (springtime due to $$) Cheers Felixx
  3. Hey everyone, Better jump on the van wagon band and post a build thread about my mk2 van. Purchased from Alexandra, taken off the road to tidy it up and fix the rust. That was a couple of years ago, so ill play catch up with my posts to get it to the current state. Pretty standard apart from the 1600 and us800 mags. Mags and massive exhaust tip were the first to go This is how it sat before being taken of the road Plan is keep the 1600, panel up the windows and a few other bits
  4. Well had this for ages, drove for several years then rust got the better of it. But time has come for restoration
  5. Here she is, my 1987 Ford Falcon XF GL. 250 Crossflow engine. She's an EFI model but running a 350 Holley on a redline intake manifold. 3 speed Borg Warner box that goes alright for now. Mods already done: -Factory wheels swapped with some 12 slotters running 225s up the front and 245s out the back. -Bull bar removed, nicely might I add, so all mounts are intact if I want to sell or put em back on. -Mounted an AFR gauge that I had lying round under the steering wheel. Here's mods list for short term: - New lowering springs front and rear, not super lows - New shocks to suit springs - New wheel bearings - New disk rotors - New ball joints - New Nolethane bushes all round (too stiff and noisy, thoughts???) - New tie rods and ends - Eb V8 rear diff 3.27 ratio LSD (wider by 10mm but should be sweet) - EF/EL sedan tailshaft Here's the longer term mods: - BF Barra N/A - Matched 4 speed btr - Tailshaft to suit - Engine and box mounts (Thoughts on Tuff Mounts, Rod Shop or another brand???) - Front sway bar to clear barra sump. Most likely buy new - Loom to suit - Standalone ecu or reflash stock Barra (not sure yet) - Manualized shift kit - B&M ratchet shifter - Get it engineered (this is where the list will get bigger) - Rust remove and respray If you've made it this far, maybe you'd like to pick any of this rough plan apart! Any criticism welcomed. Cheers.
  6. Build Thread Anyone have anything they want to ask/ comment about the car feel free. Cool.
  7. Hey Team. Been AWOL quite a long time. Had some serious hickups in life that slowed me down and forced me to let go of my last project. a mk3 Ford Cortina. And frankly, I went through a pretty nasty period of depression. But you can't keep a good guy down. And you won't stop a grease monkey eventually getting covered in grease. Around a month ago, My Daily Driver 2000 Ford Mondeo slipped a tooth on the timing belt on the exhaust cam, and did some bendy valve stuff. A friend had this sitting in his hay shed taking up space. And Rather than try and rebuild the Mondeo motor (Which had only done 30,000k since I did a rebuild on it anyway) I jumped at the chance to get into something RWD, with a carb, and a tray. Repainted sometime in its past, But rather neglected of late. I saw this as a chance to tinker with something oldish again. Fresh Battery and some fuel and she fired right up. She didn't sound right, but she did start. Got her home running like a bag full of assholes. Popped the bonnet to find green alien blood pretty much pissing out the Number 4 exhaust. (Sigh... Headgasket) So.... List of things on the to do list... Head Gasket (Or just pull the motor and rebuild the whole thing, It's done 300,000+ k) The steering wheel is toast. The Fuel Sender is bung (This is pretty common in these from what I've read) The tray needs that water trap bedliner scrapped and a spray on liner done. The offset on those rims is FAR too positive. Add more tie down points. Fix the Fuel door Stupid little interior blanks with holes drilled in them need sorting Screws missing in the interior. Giant speaker holes in the door cards. Apply power steering (If I can find the stuff to do it) Headunit with bluetooth. Other minor cosmetic things. Sort the suspension. Answer every question/problem in life with "Just chuck it on the back of the ute" Create discussion thread.
  8. Been awhile since I've put more than a "like" up on oldschool.co.nz, mainly because its been awhile since I've had an "oldschool" car. So here's an Intro into the project for those that might not know me directly or follow me on Instagram....... A few things happened since the last project car, I got a few more motorbikes, had a few daily duty vehicles come and go, got married, got a dog, got a trailer..... and got a house. Which has been a real time and money drain hole. However it did come with a sweet garage. A pretty descent depth two car garage, WITH a workshop on top!!! Needless to say this was the first room in the house to be renovated. Pulled up the manky vinyl flooring and clear coated the wooden floors. So stoked to have all these things that I have horded for ages in the same place and downstairs from my house. However, being that this is a 1950's house, that has received very little up keep, it has been and still is a time sponge. Still, no complaints, as is house life, there is always work to do and having a two story garage out-ways any of the bad. Note; only renovated the front of the house yet haha Anyways, that'll do for the back story. On with the project car.
  9. Project thread: http://oldschool.co....rd-anglia-105e/ Hey Mac, that's a nice looking Anglia you've got there. Certainly an interesting choice for a 16 year old. What are your plans for it? Your thread is in the wrong section of the website at the moment, but I'm sure a moderator will move it to the User's Projects / Build Ups section soon. EDIT - Moved
  10. Hi All, Have been a member of the forums for a while but haven't contributed a lot. Went along to the monthly meet in Ellerslie last week for the first time and met the Escort brigade in the pub. Someone suggested I should post to introduce myself and my car so here goes. I bought a 1064 Mk1 Cortina GT in 2011 which looked like this at the time. Turned out the engine needed a bit of work so I decided to go for a YB engine. It has taken a lot longer than I had hoped but the car is now not far from being complete. Fingers crossed it may be on the road by the October monthly meet. Will post some more pics when I work out how to resize them... Cheers Nick Discussion- //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/50272-sods-64-cortina-cosworth/
  11. Discuss it here. https://oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/63775-bantams-1977-ford-escort-xl/
  12. After selling my Mk1 2 door, I brought a 1995 WRX Sti type Ra because who doesn't lust after rally spec cars. Hell of blast, but I want to keep the km's down as I see it appreciating in the future. I needed something that milage or a few shopping market dents wouldn't worry me too much. Found this on fb down in the south island.
  13. Been following this forum for a while and been meaning to start a build thread so here go's. I have had it close to a year all ready and have not been keeping to good a photo history unfortunately. A year or so ago I started a new job that came with a company vehicle which allowed me to sell my late model Navara freeing up some cash. About the same time we bought a lifestyle property outside of Hamilton that came with a converted pig shed at 130 square meters. So I thought I should get my self some sort of toy. I started looking for something american but decided that seems though we had a mortgage and a young family I could not justify the money required to get something decent. So I decided to look around for a tidy Escort. I used to play with old fords when I was younger....had a MK1 Escort van and a Consul 315. So I picked this up at a good price. A chick had it before me and it was her first, and only car. And as she discovered a 40 year old Ford is not really ideal for either of those.
  14. Hey guys, been lurking for a while and thought I should get around to posting a build thread. I bought my Escort about 6 months ago. Previous owner had bought the car from new and drove it until he died. Only 136,000kms, a lot of which were at highway speed between Chch and Rangiora. Interior was in great condition, body had a few scrapes but nothing major and was basically rust free. Probably going to be pretty slow progress to lack of funds, but will hopefully get painted over this summer. Discussion thread
  15. Discuss //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/43865-mofs-1979-escort-panel-van/ Hey OS This is probably going to be a long slow process but ill try post when I can Because we're going to the US later in the year I don't have any moneys to spend on it yet, so im doing what I can for free Bought this van about a month ago Most of the hard work has been done, the panel work is pretty good but the wiring and running gear is not good There's a couple small bubbles of rust, 1 in the r/h door front corner, and one on the corner of the bonnet. I haven't found anywhere else...... yet Heres some starting photos, I borrowed these from the old owner as they are better than dim lit garage pics. Someones modified the dash and made it a 5 dial And this isn't original right?
  16. So as a few of you probably know. Beth had a little car crash and no longer has a golf. We said we would buy myself a cheap run around and she can have the Subaru and put the rest of the money else where. So I brought a ea coon. I brought it cause previously I had one I brought for the globes and I then sold it. Kept the globes though. I rang a couple of places to get lowering springs... Scratch that Ill get them Compressed at spring town in Frankton. Time to lower the the bad boy again. Had to roll the guards a little bit. Chur to the help of @Mrs 64valiant Still got factory radio in it. The battery went flat last week. Luckily I still had the owners manual with the code in it to unlock it. The interior is in pretty good condition. Hahahahahahaha They sure don't make them like they used to any more. Currently scrolling the net at turbo set ups. And I need to lower the rear a bit more.
  17. Hey I’m new to oldschool but want to share the entire build of my 1980 mk2 ford escort estate and thought this would be the best place to do so. We picked her up a couple of years ago so that I could have a project throughout my high school years.
  18. This is the thread of my 105e Ford Anglia, last year we got it to the point to be drive-able up to Kaikoura from Christchurch. Its nearly been a year now and i now have my learners license. So i decided to do it up properly as my first car. My discussion: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/53164-105e-ford-anglia-shannon-discussion/ My Brothers Anglia Fourm: http://oldschool.co....105e/?hl=jorden Here is my dads Ford Falcon (XP) http://oldschool.co....l-supercharged/ Here is the link to the proper journey to Kaikoura in two weeks. http://oldschool.co....glia/?hl=anglia Below is how we bought it for $1000 with nearly everything with it. It has around 86-7ish thousand miles on the clock. Before we drove it to Kaiakoura. Once we had it ready we got it registered and we put a warrant on the day we left. After we got home my dad used it for a run about car for a while and then it got parked up for a few months. Now im happy to say that in those few months i drove the car. This was the first car i had ever driven by myself (On the property of course). Now after another few months of sitting there it was my turn to do it up properly so i started the strip down. Everything came off the exterior except the handles and the window washer/wiper motors and also the chrome. And this is how it stood. We took the motor out this weekend. We put the motor in my brothers so it could get re-vinned. This is the only real rust on the car, theres also some on the boot: Im looking for Mk2 Cortina struts (Disc Brake Setup) message me please if you know of any The whole car is now bare metal excluding the roof and the engine bay so it will soon be ready for undercoat. Engine bay almost done My brothers wheels on my car Some pretty exciting news! while cleaning out the garage we found some undercoat. Its in a massive barrel. We tested it to make sure it was fine and it is. So im going hard out on my car at the moment finishing out all of the nitty stuff that i dont want to do A bit of surface rust, i guess this just shows that its been a while... Door jams The under small bit under the front and back guards/wheel wells. And finally the bit above the windows, thats really hard to get into with the wire wheel. So exciting time ahead!
  19. So we have my lil 76 Escort here. which has been a looooong build in progres. About 5 years in the making. over the next couple of days I will be making a full build thread but this is the first post.. so enjoy
  20. Went to start up my Mk2 Panelvan, left it too long... engine has siezed. Any tips to unseize it (preferably without taking the engine out of the car)?
  21. Went and had a gander at this and put a deposit on it about a month ago, and finally organised myself to go get it yesterday. Formerly owned by ESKIN8R who i think originally chopped it up and put it together and then Zebra Dude, who got it painted and sorted the draw bar etc. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/26688-zebra-dudes-esky-van-trailer/ (photos are down) I knew i was in the right place! (you will know their works by the trail of bodies) Needed the lights wiring up, + some beers and Ben didnt finish till 6, so by the time it was ready to roll it was pretty late! Ran the gauntlet no troubles at all, and tows well, will go even better with some weight in it. I also managed to convince Ben to through in some schwweeeet rims. In case you are not a wheel aficiondo, they are * 13 x 6JJ * CHEVIOT * TURBO * Anyway today started getting into it, cut down the roofies from the van ( ) hung a gas bottle from a handy attachment and pondered on how to cram a LWB sized vans worth of camping stuff into half an Escort... Solution - Make the small thing bigger with Extentions! Roll * 13 x 6JJ * CHEVIOT * TURBO * to entice only the hottest classiest babes into the stabbin cabin. Need to buy some hardware to mount the doors then start thinking about the interior. Its basically going to be a bedroom for the boy + bathroom and kitchen that I can tow with the 2300, 125 or my daily
  22. Hi all, Wondering what fellow 1600 ford crossflow motor owners are seeing temperature wise at operating temp. Drove mine at the weekend and it was sitting around the 90 degree mark- didn't exceed this. I've heard they tend to run a bit hotter than normal... Any help appreciated, Cheers
  23. In here you all can crucify or praise me for my choice of such a pedestrian form of transport. 2 of my kids love it, no. 3 has a diseased bias towards GMH . Apparently there's no cure for that. Slept on it last night, i'll keep it for a while but the search is on for an avenger wagon, showing my bias now.
  24. Discuss //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/51814-footeys-1980-mk2-escort-shinanigans/ Right lets make a start, I brought a 1980 mk2 escort back in late 2011 for 900 as a runner rough but legal (somehow) standard 1300 thought it was all dandy, these are the only picture I have of it back then lovely amber orange (puke)
