Vintage Grumble
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh so it sticking out past the end of the bar/your fingers having to be bent sideways is the problem, durrrr, I was thinking travel of the lever was the problem, which makes no sense. Don't mind me.
Raizer
Seller said I was sent mid length levers, have got a pair of shorties coming now.
Raizer
Been too long between updates! Nothing too exciting to post though, my shorter (hopefully) levers left China a few days ago so are at least on the way, dash went Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur, fingers crossed next stop is NZ haha! Been mucking around with small bits and pieces, was going to do the switch wiring but have decided to wait until I've got the new dash just so I don't have to redo any of the wiring when it gets here. I know it's been covered on the forum before, but meh, acidic rust removal: took the seat mount bracket/hinge parts which looked like this on both sides: Added white vinegar Started bubbling pretty much instantly! Realized my container was way too small and swapped it out into a bigger one. Checked on it a few hours later: After less than 24 hours I ran the bits under the tap and gave them a wipe up with a rag, result! Ready for a quick scuff up and a coat of black paint
Raizer
Now for some actual progress, sort of anyway. New levers came today, still a touch long but at least usable, really do want some BWS/Zuma/Jog 100 controls and levers though I think. Fitted the bars to the scoot, then fitted the levers to the bars Drilled out the adjuster thread on the rear to take a scooter style cable. Haven't got a throttle grip that plays nice with the Jog style controls (think there actually from a Kymco looking at the markings) So I tried out the Kitaco throttle and AliExpress switch Still undecided on them though, if I do run this switch I 100% will be running the lights through a relay and NOT running any decent current through the switch! Brake bled up nicely, lever has a nice feel to it etc too. Need to figure out a plan for combining early stage Gyro, late stage Gyro and custom wiring into a tidy cohesive loom!

Raizer
Ummmm..... And then there was 2... Popped up on FB and within minutes I had at least 6 people tagging me about it, @MopedNZ gave my arm a twist along with offering to pick it up and store it for me until I can get up to Tauranga and pick it up, epic thanks yet again bro! I will not get carried away with this one, I will not get carried away with this one, I will not get carried away with this one, maybe paint, I will not get carried away with this one, wide wheels, I will not get carried away with this one, late engine, I will....
Raizer
From what I can tell from the pics, the new one is the same early model (82-84) Gyro X as my original, but it's had pretty much all of the factory body panels replaced with that aftermarket Canopy kit. Courier just dropped this off Now I can start making some progress again!
Raizer
After a 21 hour round trip to Tauranga and back via Hamilton, Raglan, Hamilton, Taupo, Napier etc I've got the 2nd Gyro home. It's still an early model with 3 stud rear rims and narrow track, but the 10" front wheel suggests it's a bit later model than my 83. Few cracks in the fibreglass to patch up, screen hopefully will come up ok with a decent plastic polish. Will pull it out of the van later in the morning and see if I can get it running.

Popular Post Raizer
Yeah man, can't wait to catch up with the East Cape ride next month! Needs some love, drain the rusty water/petrol mix, find why there's no electrics with my new battery fitted etc etc but nothing I can't handle. Also started first kick on engine start!

Raizer
The epic GC @64vauxhall seemed offended seeing the grotty grey seat anywhere near his shop, was amazing watching the master at work! My build is now going to be done using this new frame, there's enough benefit from using the later spec frame to justify moving all the new bits from the early one! Went to tidy up the shed this evening and got distracted by swingarms, the Gyro X use a cradle to hold the bottom of the engine where as the Gyro Canopys use a pair of plates to hold the engine on, I prefer the Canopy style for a few reasons. The new X came with a semi polished swingarm and I had a nasty looking Canopy one kicking about from the haul of Canopy parts @MopedNZ picked up ages ago. Notice the mounts? Split open the Canopy one first, the black rubbers there act as springs and are what allow the front to pivot when cornering etc. The X one was like new inside so I swapped all it's parts onto the Canopy shaft after giving it a lick of paint Ready to hang under the new frame And got the engine ready to pull out of the original Gyro, just the brake cables and 2 bolts to go Sheds no cleaner at all, but at least there's progress haha
bigfoot
I saw a canopy one of these things on way home from work tonight. They look fun
Raizer
Busy day today, nearly completely stripped the new Gyro Hit it and my very grimy Canopy engine with a LOT of degreaser Added a steering stop for the Dio forks Yeah the weld is rough as fuck, got a bit tight with 2 pairs of vice grips holding it in place and the breeze blowing the argon didn't help much either! Went to work for a few hours, then fitted the swingarm then engine Got distracted and rebuilt the front shocks Routed the cables, did most of the engine end wiring, chucked a random Suzuki wheel at the front and it is almost ready to go!! Little bit of wiring, mounts needs to be made for the dash and speed sensor and a few other jobs to go. Should be able to squeeze a kill button in there to use as a starter! Realized the new ignition I got from Honda in Japan is for a new DC ignition model, so while it would work fine to turn on my ignition it wouldn't kill the engine when turned off haha, wiring from an old ignition swapped on
Popular Post Raizer
Got it legal today Found a kill switch that looked about right to use as a starter button Got almost all the wiring done and mounted the huge aftermarket CDI Still need the make a mount for the dash and wire it in, but I've clearly got most of it right so far lol
Raizer
Late night in the shed doing some wiring, started with this: Managed to make this happen out of that mess Need to try and make another sender fit the tank, Honda use 510Ω fuel senders while most other scooters (and this gauge) use 100Ω senders. Unless I can use a resistor or something to change the ohms? Bunch of bonus length Much better! Getting damn close!
DB8-TypeR
Are wide rear wheels still in the cards for this?
Popular Post Raizer
No love for the blue wheels?? Hacked up a Suzuki fuel sender I had kicking about Fitted all new fuel and oil hoses Added the clips before filling the oil Relocated the indicator unit from the bars to down by the engine (stock location on the early 2 models) Cut used the new slim Kitaco outer throttle cable and a stock Honda inner to set the throttle cable to the perfect length This throttle goes from closed to WOT in less than 1/4 turn! And took a rough cardboard template and a box of Whakachangis down and turned them into this Gave it a lock of paint and baked it in the BBQ to dry it, used some big vacuum line to make some vibration isolators Also there may have been a shed skid and I may only be posting this now as we had to come inside to air the shed out a bit haha!
