Unclejake
The BA Falcon developed a serious steering wheel shake and vibration under braking this afternoon. It was absolutely fine this morning. It feels like a really badly warped rotor, but I've never experienced one starting off with such sudden and dramatic symptoms. I can't pull it apart for a couple of days, but I need to drive it 800kms the next day, and of course most places are closed. Any theories apart from a warped rotor? Alfashark
Wheel bearing suddenly called it quits? Lower arm bush given up the ghost perhaps?
Unclejake
Both are possible, but I checked the bearings only two months ago and there's no issue or noise except under brakes. I need to get it into the shed.
Raizer
Aren't "EZ warp" rotors factory fitted on BA Falcoons? Remember reading something about the rod from the pedal always being set wrong on BAs too resulting in cooked brakes. Edit: Google says it's the rod in the booster that needs to be backed off http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1961612
tim13
cracked rotor can be sudden , will kick through pedal , your description sounds more like its thrown a wheel weight or delaminating tyre , if sudden and bad should be easy to find ..... good luck
mjrstar
Might be a pad buildup on the rotor rather than a warped disc, can happen when you sit with the brake applied after a decent stop or two.. Could take it out For a re-bed if The shudder is not too vicious??
nickrock
I sure as hell would be jacking up the car and checking there isn't something come loose in the steering
Testament
Pad buildup or pad breakup maybe. Could get some new pads to chuck in when you have a chance after checking its not a wheel fall off/send you in a ditch problem. Either way no tailgating for UJ
SOHC
Did someone oil your brakes?
vivaspeed
My BF does the same, sometimes gets a really bad shudder for no reason under braking, and then seems to just disappear. Doesn't seem to be anything obviously wrong. But yeah they have a bad rep for eating brakes. It's also good at throwing wheel weights and having a wobble at high speeds. For peace of mind I would at least inspect it, take a wheel off before doing your holiday travelling.
AllTorque
All it takes to warp a BA rotor is to stop while the brakes are hot. It is also important to torque up the wheel nuts evenly to 135 Nm.
kyteler
So basically Ford didn't fix any of their shit brake issues since at least the ED (therefore likely at least the E series on) Sucks to have one of those fail barges. Might as well be your wife's Audi.
Unclejake
Thanks guys. It's not going to be a wheel weight as the shudder is only under braking.... and yup, Vivaspeed is onto it. The shudder has disappeared. WTF! I guess the shudder will come back, but I'll throw some new rotors on it while I'm away. Dear KY, there's no denying that these Falcons have lots of build quality and design flaws, but it is a delight to drive most of the time and it 100% meets my needs at the moment. There's not a lot of choices in big RWD wagons.... (but TBH I wouldn't buy another Ford after this one. The lack of a manual tailgate opening mechanism is completely retarded)
kyteler
So retarded, fuck I hated that with the old man's BA/BF/whatever it was, fucking stoopid. Jump out at the boat ramp, sort the boat out ready for launch, I'll just open the gate.. OH WAIT NO I WON'T WITHOUT HAVING TO OPEN THE CABIN AND PUSH A STOOPID BUTTON. FUUUUUU!

kyteler
You could of course but what manner of utility vehicle makes it a hassle to use the fucking cargo space? Thanks Ford, you dicks.

Unclejake
Our washing machine drains most of the water if you pause it for more than a few minutes as a small child could climb it, open the lid, crawl into the bowl and drown. At least it doesn't beep much.
