Popular Post Rookie
I thought I would start one of these for the shed as it will make me take photos and shit of progress, and you guys might be interested. We bought a house at the start of October and it has a pissy little single car garage, which plainly won't do. Since then I have planned what I wanted and have started on making it happen. I go to get consent tomorrow so wish me luck for that. So far I have built a temporary shed to house stuff while it is getting built and have moved half of the garage forward about 5 metres so that the new shed can be built behind it. This is what the section looked like when we bought it, the red square is where the new garage is going; necessitating the shift of the old garage. Plan of what I want from my new shed. And how I plan to fit my junk in it. And a Mezzanine floor for extra Junk. The rough dimensions are 8mx8m 4.8m tall, with a 8x2.5 carport on the side. So To start with I had to move the old garage, to be more specific half of the old garage. This started by gutting the back half, then using the chainsaw to separate the two parts. Then a lot of grunting sweating and swearing by Tom, Sparky, Neil, and myself ( good job chaps). That ended up with it looking like this. The next move is to cut down the dead tree in the back yard and bowl the rear half of the garage, after that I will get a digger in to level the back lawn and prep the site for the boxing and pad.
Rookie
So the Council meeting went OK, seemed easy enough and the Waikato Shed company had provided everything that was required, although the council lady wanted the engineer to sign off on the durability of the materials, even though there was a producer statement. So after a bit of ringing around I got the feeling that the producer statement was more than adequate, I then contacted the Council lady again to confirm what she wanted and she said it was all there, so a bit of a wild goose chase but none the less we are on track. I also just payed for the kit so that will be ordered today. Now to do some actual work ha!

Rookie
Yea bro, it is a pretty sweet little place, closer to town than our old place too. I just have to try and stop Maria spending my hoist money on the Kitchen hahahaha

Chris.QCR
Excellent! Should be a great shed once finished!
Truenotch
This is why you have separate bank accounts David . Let her spend hospital money on the kitchen while you spend forestry money on a hoist. Win / win.

Rookie
So I did some more work on this. I pulled down the back half of the old shed and had a fire. 70 has a great time stoking fires. I also pulled down the dead apricot tree, it was a shame it was dead, but at least we will have some good fire wood for winter. The method used comes highly recommended; supercharged LS2 powered 70 series! Hopefully I can track down the video. I also got word from the engineer at the council that the consent is all go, just waiting for the i's to be dotted and the t's crossed.

Rookie
So I took the day off on friday and did the earth works for the foundations. We hired a 1.75t digger and went at it. Pulling the pad up with the tiny digger was a mission. So we hired a jack hammer. Then we got to leveling the area. We used a laser leveler, what a great thing, highly recommended! Chucked a scab of pumice down and called it chob done. We got it within 20mm of level across the whole thing so I am happy with that. And we ended up it a bit of topsoil hahaha Now for boxing and reo placement so I can get the council around to have a look.

63Ragtop
Good work, there is a house I pass when I ride to work, people did it up real nice, new paint, deck, little planter box/ retained garden things, had a good size old skline double garage, then I see they pulled it down to sell the house. How is that improving the place? that's the deal breaker for me! no thanks. sorry spam.
Rookie
Yea, I have pondered whether or not this is going to improve the value of the house, I think it will some what, but not the amount that it will have cost me. That said I think it will make the house heaps easier to sell, if/when we do.
Esprit
Pet hate when househunting was seeing places that obviously used to have internal access garaging that was turned into bedrooms... useless bastards ruining what was otherwise a good house!
Rookie
^ This, it put me off a couple of house when we were looking.
Rookie
The old man has been up the last couple of days, so we got stuck into the profiles and string lines. We hired a lazer leveler, boy do they make it easy, highly recommended! So now the strings are all level and square, at the right height, it is time to do the boxing. Once that is done I will be able to dig the footings for the columns and get the reo in place.
Rookie
After work 70 and I got the boxing done, it is pretty rough at the moment but I will tweak it to get it spot on. Now I just have to dig the footings and get the reo sorted, how every it is unlikely that it there will be much more progress before the new year, but it is going well I think.
