Valiant
SOHC: The flat head 4 turns over, it's a long way off being a runner. I hadn't intended to make it a full resto, just make it move under it's own power, put the body work back on and sort out a hydraulic system so I can grade my drive and do the weeding etc with it. I will keep the flat head 4 in the corner of my garage, may be I'll restore it when I retire or something. I don't know. Thanks for the heads up about the V8. I'll hold off though thanks. I well blew the budget buying this. Felixx, Thanks I would be interested in seeing that. Is your carb an updraught? That's what this had. Is it a 1 bbl? * It's about 1.9L displacement I think. CUL8R
Like Pete says, this thing is rather tiny, need to park next to Anglia/Valiant/Cortina/Hiace for scale.. A15 should make it fun, and alot more usable than the Original motor. Was impressed with just how solid it was - and shouldn't take too much work to remove previous owner bodges...

Valiant
I took to this with the gas set last week. Old motor and box, gone. Motor bike tank, gone. Radiator mounts, gone. Various other crap, gone. I've made a start tidying up the grill, made some side panels, and worked out how it all fitted together. Next is to work out what holds the fuel tank in place. Then start adding a motor.

Popular Post Valiant
Crawler. Datsun. Combined! It's a bit of a tight fit, nothing that some cutting and welding won't fix. Thanks Bart for the gearbox bits. I have a rear mount to make yet, it's a bit tricky. It needs to hold the motor to the crawler and the fuel tank to the bonnet.
Valiant
Thanks to this dubious creation. Rear mount, bearing retainer, and fuel tank stand

KKtrips
Excuse my retardation but how does the gearbox fit onto this or are you going direct drive from the clutch? (which is entirely plausible)
Yowzer
I think the g/box and diff are a single unit mounted under the seat?
Valiant
I think the g/box and diff are a single unit mounted under the seat? Yep you're right. It has 3 forward and 1 reverse in there with the diff. I'll make up some kind of a drive shaft to connect the two, I'm thinking a small tractor PTO shaft at the moment. Yowzer
Would be funny running another gbox on the engine for mega heaps of ratios to chose from
Valiant
Quite a few people do. it makes the motor/box combo to long with a more modern car box though. I think that a Ford model A gearbox fits the original motors with little or no modification. Read all about it here. http://cletrac.org/pages/auxtrans.html
