AllTorque
Dude. You seriously need to stop that fuel leak before you even think about starting the motor. Have you checked ignition timing with a timing light?
hillman1
not realy woried about it working well just enough to move it in and out of shed till i can get cash together for a rebuild and oem carbs just chucked carb had lying around of avenger on it to get it to fire all fuel is coming out over flow on carb due to to high fuel pressure i believe but cant wind down any lower on fpr. just realy want to know about the back fire threw breather hose would this be from firing before intake valves close? not much ajustment on dizzy so maybe i mised a tooth

maddat
mate, fix that fuel leak first before you set it on fire.it wont run with that fuel pump u have atm keep in mind...if its lean it will backfire thru carb and if its rich then thru exhaust
KKtrips
Do the basics - time it to 5 degrees BTDC and fix that fuel leak - then get back to us. You're wasting your time with anything else to start with.
hillman1
dw mate i hade the fire extinguisher on standby thing im just going to gravity feed carb from surge tank for the time being keep in mind this is not permenent just for driving car about 5/6 meters on weekends

Bling
Yeah totally not worth it, pushing isn't that hard. Fuel everywhere will mean big bang when it goes, why even risk it.

I've seen it done, LOL I've also seen it done by lazy mechanics on a Friday afternoon and then I've seen them ordering new starter motor on the Monday morning LOL. transit vans eh

Steelies
starting another project so you can work on your project better? i'm guessing you'll spend more time and money fixing your quick-fix than you will waiting for a clear saturday and borrowing some gummies. not trying to rip the shit out of it, we're all just giving advice based on very similar experiences. Frosty
Every one else seems to be telling you "don't waste your time" In reality there's realty only two things that cause inlet back fires to that degree. 1, Spark plug leads round the wrong way. To check, Take dizzy cap of and check where no 1 is. That will be 1 or 4 depending on the position of the cam. Next turn over the engine to check which way the shaft turns. Use the 1342 firing order based on that. 2, An inlet valve is hanging open. To eliminate this as a cause do a compression test, if 1 cylinder is low you've found your problem. Ohh and fix that fuel leak before you hurt your self.
AllTorque
3. spark firing while valve is still open due to incorrect ignition timing.
Mike-e
for your fuel pressure you may get away with having a T piece after your FPR so 1 end is connected to carb and the other goes back to tank
