kicker
Mine was about $30 from tm Got a laser thermometer too which is more fun, have been measuring all kinds of stuff, toast, a mans face etc
Seedy Al
haha just a random mans face on the street, sniper style I would like to know what mine is pulling, to optimise gear. maybe its time to make a cheap dyno haha
Steelies
i ran kickers digi tach for a while but found i'd only remember to look coming back in to pit lane, always too concentrating at speed haha. but it looked to be working fine after some diddling with number of turns round plug lead. Ned
Cheapest /easiest way to do a bike dyno that you can use to tune bikes on (aka putting a load on the motor) would probably be brake disks and calipers. If you just wanna measure power figures, you just need a big heavy drum to spin up but once you're up to speed, there is no load so can't tune like that. We were looking into building one but it just seems like a lot of effort
KIRK
ah somewhere on the internet I did see instructions on how to make a dyno for bikes like ned said with a disk brake. reel mower rollers would be ideal
sentra
isnt a taco meter and a speed reading good enough to work ackbards if we just use the same fudgefactor?

Steelies
yeah, tune by ETs. can you read power output and add load with a big DC motor and some electromagic stuff?
flyingbrick
yep like modern exercycles do... or have it drive a big fan. using disk brake to provide load is a bit rude... but oh we'll
BlownCorona
yep like modern exercycles do... or have it drive a big fan. using disk brake to provide load is a bit rude... but oh we'll would get fucking hot too wouldnt it? recently melted my finger on a cars rotor... Ned
Yeah, getting rid of 300W from a human isn't too hard. 10000W is a different story...
Seedy Al
Hmmm. We should probabaly move this conversation away from the Build of this bike, Sorry man haha two wheels is so spam central
Spencer
Helped build a bike dyno with a hydraulic pump, worked awesome /spam
Truenotch
Alright, I now have this... and have already chopped the front to correct the rake and have prepared the forks for shortening. Box section thing is now getting wanged together as quick as possible so I can go hooning. Cut, weld, go!
KIRK
you should sell the stem, bars and grips off that. Could get 50 just for the grips...have seen them sell for that much before
Truenotch
Did some re-thinking and I've finally come up with the winning formula. 2 stroke is the key. I've had the motor running for short periods of time, so now I need to feed some fuel to the carb and make it go properly. SOOO much compression! There's also enough space behind the engine for a decent layshaft / gearbox setup. I'll get it going with a lay shaft for starters and will work out a way to vary the gear ratios later. I'm tossing up whether I should change the handlebar setup too... Need to try a few different things.
alfalfa
Looking good son! I can see that being uncomfortable haha. What are your plans for getting the power to the ground?
Vintage Grumble
That looks like it will be hugely unstable at speed, perfect.
