Dusty
I saw ya somewhere between Auckland and Taupo on monday.Looked good Cheers man. given up on turbo getting done this year. to little cash. exhaust mani when half done. fuck i hate fileing. Got a rwd sump from a na1.8 and tapped oil drain hole and blocked off the oil level stick hole. its all bolted in on the engine now. today: finished exhaust valve actually works really well iv got it blocking the 2.5 inch pipe only slightly louder than the blockoff plate when closed. ill put a vid up at some point. inside of exhaust with valve closed. looks like shit :/ also painted the window frame. Testament
sweet progress man, did you get an MS that plugged straight into the MX loom?
Dusty
sweet progress man, did you get an MS that plugged straight into the MX loom? nah just standard and cut into the loom. the quiet side exhaust snapped off at the 2.5" so welded that back on today. set the timing on the ms correctly (was 8degrees to retarded) runs a little better now. going to make a new spark map and should run sweet. started welding the exhaust mani together and its coming along nicely ill pop a pick up tomorrow. Dusty
Still tuning the ms but its getting there. exhaust mani semi welded. looks horrid. welding is 60% good. need to file down the inside but i cant be assed so ill do a halfassed job of it tommrow. also the td04 turbo i brought is fucked with bad shaft play and cracked exhaust housing so ill have to get a td05 at some point. NicT
Cut down until u get a parrallel face on the wastegate pipe, then get a steam pipe tight radius 90 and face it off on an angle so the direction it points in is in line with where the centre of the dump pipe will be. I tried to draw it in paint but that ended up being a bit of a fail haha.
Alistair
Hard to see but if it was flipped upside down to run top mount it looks like the angle you have the turbo flange on would allow it to clear and have the wastegate underneath? /maybe nah? Testament
ah shite. I'm going to sound like a dick but did you tack it up to check fitment first? also what about stuff in the car, engine mounts, inner guards etc.?
Dusty
ah shite. I'm going to sound like a dick but did you tack it up to check fitment first? also what about stuff in the car, engine mounts, inner guards etc.? nah never checked it and hence welded it on upside down. thought it was wide bolts at top thin at bottom. always the other way around. well have to cut it off grind it back and reweld it the right way. fuck. ohwell. Simon
I'm very interested in the exhaust valve. I have been contemplating that ever since I found out what mufflers did. Whats the motor that you use? I guess an old throttle body with a circular plate cut to fit the ID of the pipe? I thought about just doing the flap part of of box section and then doing something like this for the V8. Although the different designs are endless you get the idea. I used a electric window winder motor. the flap was a 2mm circle i ground to sort of fit and a piece of tube with a slot cut into it to hold the flap. It works but it doesn't sound nice when closed as it does a shitty rattle. you can buy pre fabbed "exhaust cutouts" like this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 343199.htm but they're stupidly expensive. if you make one just make sure there's no play in it so it wont rattle. Truenotch
Simon - raid a throttle body for the valve. Use the spring as a return and do the window winder thing for actuator... Would be easy.
Simon
I think I'll just make it sound sweet and be legal. And take the pipes off for track haha. Will be going under the diff anyway so wont be hard to drop the whole thing and save a few kgs. Sorry for spam.
Dusty
well. havent dons squat to the mx. replaced RHR knuckle and brake caliper due to buckledness. remade the exhaust because of the powlece. and not much will happen any time soon. paying off tools then saving for a welder. also brought some nicely shaped rust.
