kyteler
I am Dutch, but I've not a saved penny to show for it. I was talking to the old man yesterday, telling him a fool and their money are easily parted, which is exactly why I'm likely to go and buy a car from CHC that doesn't run. I'M A FOOL! xsspeed
Fucking mods spamming up project threads OK, so got head to go on Brown Gt, should I get a standard Toyota head gasket, 1.2mm, which has metal rings around pistons but is that composite sort of material, or get a TRD MLS gasket 0.8mm. Given engine has had HG problems in the past, and I am wanting to slap this head on and drive, which is more likely to seal, cost is pretty equal (in fact I think trd is cheaper lol) but only interested in what will/should work better. Toucan
If both surfaces are straight then either should work? Andyling votes TRD

xsspeed
lol, cannot really verify straightness of block deck beside use of a straight edge, was gunna not bother and see how I go?

xsspeed
oh snap Reason for not bothering is just to get it running, as I have a motor ready to build to put in, so why throw money at this one.
kyteler
Then whatever is the cheapest.

Truenotch
The TRD gaskets require nice flat surfaces to seal. Just jam in a standard graphite gasket and go for gold.
xsspeed
Problem found As of 5pm yesterday Decided to spend some more time tidying the head (ie getting wid of shitty flaky paint) so will reassemble this coming weekend/sometime this week
Vintage Grumble
So this is why it was steaming up at wez's track day? Also, someones put your motor in side ways, you may want to see to that.
ryanfels
is that a ratchett that you get from the $10 bin at repco?
xsspeed
The one by the radiator? Nah its out of my alltrade kit, haven't been able to kill it VG, at Wez's trackday it was blocked radiator, so water was boiling and escaping through overflow. At Nats trackday I did this after I got it back on the track after the oil sender shat itself.

xsspeed
It lives...just. Got a battery into it tonight and managed to get it started, timing is way out though and needs to be set, is idling really rough and only gains revs slowly when accelertaor pressed - assuming timing will bring this right? Took me til 11:30 last night to get most of it back together, most troublesome bits were basic shit like engine mounts and cambelt covers, fwd engine bays are toight wee things arent they. Hopefully get it done midweek, if not, next weekend.
