cute wee gem
That engines looking real tidy in there bro. Awesome stuff. This is a mean project to watch and you seem to be making good progress too. Whats the intake tubes made from? Are you going to stick with that material or is it just to dummy it all up? Cheers, just using mild steel cause its nice and easy, should have done it in SS probably. Toucan
So jealous man, this thing is going to be super sweet. Do the piazza engines go alright? After chugging around in my bell all week I'd love a fast one, I reckon they handle pretty alright too!
mikuni
^ Piazza motors are sweet and all Isuzu engines are bullet proof, they're just getting old now so starting to suffer from lack of maintenance etc. The twincams are super hard to get parts for, about the same as the G150 thats in your beast. If I were you D, I'd stick with the slowness - atleast its reliable. Use the KP for the speed missions Tom, whens the target date for this? Are you hoping to come and unleash it at a trackday or just use it for a cruiser and get onto the gemmy once this is completed/near completion? You should cam the shit out of the G200W
Toucan
Yea hard, slow bellett an fast KP is where its at. But this one is just taunting me haha
cute wee gem
i reckon u shud build a mean as g161 for ur bellet escortA. itd go hard as. Just the standard 161 seemed to be way more hardcone in a gemini than that bellet i drove. sohc isuzu engines are menedit: yo i remember why i cam here now. oi tom do you still have any sohc isuzu shit? like those men twin carbs you had? etc Got a stock g161 which is coming out of gem in a few months. Carbs and g200 shit all going into the TE. Also, you're probably right, the sohc's are alot easier to get bits for and go pretty well, the coupe went a lot better than you'd expect untill the HG blew.. twice. They seem like pretty tough engines though, probably based off a big fucking diesel or some shit. Spend the cash on the KP because it'd suck if you break the Bellett and can't find bits! Plus you have a good rebuilt jobbie in there. You can't get cam bearings (apparently machined 18rg shit can work with them though, very similar in design afaik) or any bottom end gaskets? IMO just make it low as fuck and cruise You can take mine for a thrash when its done, D Mine was fucked so it needed a new engine or rebuild anyway, and I just happened to have the twin cam sitting there. @ Brad. Keen on spastic cams but need to re-shim with re-ground cams and can't buy them any more, machined shit could work though I guess, keen on keeping it cheapish. Cam gears are a gay design and there is fuck all room to make adjustable ones but I might slot the bolt holes and turn them 180deg then advance inlet and retard ex a few deg each for a bit of overlap, machine new key holes in that position etc. This car is pretty much my practice run for the coupe, although done a bit cheaper and to get some fabrication work and tuning practice. But still want to do a good job. If I can get a decent tune on this car with the MS then I'm going to be a retarded cunt and do a staged injection with outboard injectors on the 3sge for probably no reason/gains at all, just cause I think its cool. haha, but yeah.. gotta see if I can get this MS shit to work first. Never taken on this big a' project before, massive learning curve etc Not sure on a deadline, depends on motivation/hangovers
V8Pete
Mean progress. Where are you going to put teh injectors?
cute wee gem
Probably underneath to try and make it look old still. I've got some random mitsi rail here and a few 3sge ones that I'll have a look at, might be too wide though. edit: got eke zetec to make me some bosses for the injectors too. Testament
it's coming along pretty well! I don't think 150hp out of reach, it is 2L right? What cams are going in it?
CUL8R
Can you like, have brain transplant into uberhotness female body, and I'll marry you.. Kidding, but really can you do that? Loving it man, Out of interist did you use a guide for the lenghts of the intake or just "yea that looks about right".. Above pictures, the last 2nd to last one would be my preferred out of the g200w's..
cute wee gem
it's coming along pretty well! I don't think 150hp out of reach, it is 2L right? What cams are going in it? Yep 2 liter, using the stock cams for now, when I get a spare engine I might get them re-ground. they're 135hp standard with a pretty ugly 80's inlet setup and cast exhaust. If it doesn't make good power at least it'll have good response Not too worried about numbers though, aslong as it's fun! For the runner length I used the bowling and grippo (megasquirt) calculator and came up with this at 15 inches # For 2nd harmonic, RPM range is from 7832 to 9504 with a pulse strength of 10 percent # For 3rd harmonic, RPM range is from 5885 to 6725 with a pulse strength of 7 percent # For 4th harmonic, RPM range is from 4588 to 5131 with a pulse strength of 4 percent So this works out to match this engine pretty well (minus the 2nd harmonic) I'd say my runners are about 12 inches from valve to trumpet. I need to do some decent research into it though, and maybe play with trumpet sizes when I start tuning. I also heard another basic formula of 84,000/tuned rpm, which is 14 inches at 6000rpm. Then after all that I've read that you don't use those formula's for individual throttles without a plenum. So I said fuck it and just made them Starts getting technical after simple formulas though and would probably need to model cam timing and all sorts into it. (can't believe everything you read on the net either!) I also went and ripped that exhaust template off cause I didn't like it.. So I'm halfway through another. Agreed, looks awesome but the Bellett bay is a bastard to work them like that, but my 2nd attempt is looking far better
Requiemk
work was done haha congratz, hopefully those exhaust can get grinded down and looks like a semi easy job?
cute wee gem
work was done haha congratz, hopefully those exhaust can get grinded down and looks like a semi easy job? Not all that hard ay, just time and patience. I wish I had more variety of bends tbh. Those aren't the final pipes by the way, they're yuck Yeah, took me till about 11 to actually get over there to do something
nzsubbie
nice work theres an pretty tidy white Bellet round the road from me i think its fully original too?
kpr
looking good. may want to go down a size on the collector not up. 2" should be good. better scavenging. and as far as i know those calcs are done on your average v8 firing order witch requires bigger collector size. cute wee gem
Sweet cheers man! Would you suggest keeping the whole exhaust at 2inch from the collector? How much roughly did your bends cost?
kpr
pretty expensive aye, $19 plus gst each from memory. possibly go back up to 2.25" after the collector. check out this page for some more ideas http://www.popularhotrodding.com/tech/0 ... to_06.html
