Have made SO many mistakes that i have probably made every mistake possable but most of them are fixable just a matter of patience to fix them which was running extremly thin by the end.

Oh hey Nick. Hows Canada :D

Na still need to do pedal box. Well where not to sure yet the spline bit from the auto is alot smaler so we are looking for one of a hilman hunter as gaz thinks one of them may fit / get the shaft shortened from that. Uncle jake recons we may even be able to just shorten it ourself aslong as we set it up right. Just picked up the Gbox mounts from home so might give that a go this avo. Still heaps to do. :S

^ The 2 litre gearbox has a much bigger diameter output shaft than the 1300/1600cc gearbox that was originaly in the car. Hence the original Escort driveshaft needs a different nose on it - but it appears that the original driveshaft is also too short in length.

Low'N'slow needs to find a driveshaft suitable for a 2,000cc Mk1 Escort and he is thinking about adapting a Mk1 Cortina one using a Hillman Hunter driveshaft yoke/nose. It is likely that the Mk1 Cortina shaft will be too long but cash is the primary limitation so anything he/we can do in the backyard instead of engaging a professional would be readily considered.

Then there must be 2 different Escort auto boxes since the 1 piece shaft from a MK1 auto is the exact same shaft as a RS2000 with the same 23 splined 1" output shaft as the 2L Ford gear boxes.

the spline bit from the auto is alot smaler

The reason i asked about the length of spline is if that was what was a lot smaller compared to say the Sierra one in length it would be due to the 2 piece shaft not being pushed into/pulled out of the box as much when ever the diff moves up or down over bumps etc.

The auto 2 peice shaft Chris had is to short to work with the 5 speed by about 1inch. It is also a smaller dia so wont even go into the 5speed.

The actual end spline part is very similar length to the sierra one.. its the actual shaft thats shorter.

Hopefully Hillman fits into the tailshaft and is a tad longer than escort/sierra.. then we would be in buisness.

.

I guess so - I have never looked at a 4 clyinder auto box before. At a glance the driveshaft nose that came with the Escort looked just the same as all the 1500/1600cc splines I have seen. I didn't know that the automatic gearboxes normally had the bigger mainshaft.

Cheers mang. Learn something everyday :D

Lon'N'slow - looks like you might want to look for the driveshaft Hellraizer mentions dude.
