oh my god I am dealing with that guy currently, he chimed in and gave his not asked for two cents when I asked how people were going with either Tein S.tech or Megan racing lowering springs in their GTOs and he said they should not be lowered and that the factory springs and shocks are just fine, especially on the track.

yeah he doubled up the factory intercoolers with the worst welding ever. claimed that black paint was the best on intercoolers because that's what Mitsubishi put on them from the factory... despite the likes of the models with actually good intercoolers (ie Evo, E39A Galant VR-4 etc) have unpainted intercoolers. he does have some good knowledge, just thinks he's the authority on everything and comes across as a prick.

An actual radiator can be more efficient if it's painted black, but car radiators actually cool via conduction..

Anyone who claims you shouldn't change something coz "the factory spent millions on R&D you can't possibly improve on their immaculate design" etc etc are often clueless.

yeah it's crazy, my 80's car has been eligible for cheap reg now and it's only another 6-7 years and the VR-4 will be 40 too.

So Santa this year bought me 24 bent valves, by the way of the harmonic balancer coming apart and sending a strand of the alt/AC belt under the timing belt around the crank sprocket. And this was the harmonic balancer that I replaced about a year ago too. Lesson learned - I should have gone with a new balancer rather than another used one which is prone to failure.

Carnage so far is 24x bent valves (got lucky that the pistons just have light marks on the crowns), 4x damaged rocker arms, 3x head bolts that I stripped or partially stripped, 1x lower timing cover and of course 1x harmonic balancer that caused all this mess.

Already have a head gasket set and new valves delivered to me while I'm in Melbourne for the Xmas holidays and will piece it back together when I'm back. A few weeks back I fitted some RS-R 'Down' springs I ordered from Japan a while ago, as well as refitting the missing fog lamps and bumper grills.

Not slammed but definitely better than the sky high look it was before, and the ride is much firmer too.
