Some dash cams do a similar thing , I have a HikVision dash cam that reads speed signs out audibly which is pretty handy in Akl traffic, it also has so other analytics like detecting if the car is moving away from you if you are stationary it says "Keep up with the car" but I turned that one off as its a little over zealous It can also warn you when the traffic lights go green..Kinda, Often Ive been parked and a voice speaks "Traffic light gone green", not a green light in sight, especially in my driveway. 1 1 Quote
DoBro Jesus Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Bump. Sorta in the market for one of these. Don't wanna spend the earth on one. So looking at the cheaper end of the scale (sub $500). Anyone know what would be ideal? Those whistler ones seem to be cheap and have reasonably good reviews. I know absolutely nothing about these things. I just want it to go bloop bloop and save me from tickets haha. Quote
120why Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 I have a Uniden DRF7, mid range priced unit. Its never let me down, been very reliable. You can filter the K bands to avoid false alerts. It also remembers the false spots via gps so learns its route. Picks up cam vans well and knows where all the speed cameras are. Paid $580 but theyre about $650 now. Only had a ticket the one time I forgot to grab it.......... 2 Quote

Rhyscar Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 I 100% recommend Valentine V1. Has saved my license so many times and in my experience is far superior to escort/uniden stuff. Has a great function to filter out all the garbage signals/radar cruise controls. New ones are more advanced/fancier but do take some time to set up properly. Import yourself from the states using a freight forward service like youpost to save a bit of money on purchase. Just bought one of the newer model for my mum was around $8-900 landed. Quote
R3spct Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 I miss my old V1, was def a good unit, got a $600ish uniden, has gps etc, has def saved me a couple of times and range and accuracy is pretty good. $1500 unit would have to be a heap better to justify me going past this level of cost. 1 Quote
cletus Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 Is this worth bothering with? It works, by that i mean it bleep bloops a lot when i drove around to test it, mostly on the k band light. I assume thats from picking up traffic lights and stuff like that? Quote
Bling Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 Garage doors are a common false trigger for K band from memory. Quote
