Plus one for Strata i Bought an AC/DC ex demo for $1800 from Proline in Nelson. its so bloody easy to use and has made my getting back in to tig so much better AC i'm still learning but havent blown holes in anything yet.

Went and brought a roll of .6 wire to use instead of .8 as you lads recommended. Got it for $49 instead of $69 @toolshed fathers day sale.

Got home and realised i dont have any .6 contact tips and I also have to change the roller In the welder itself.

Think to myself , oh yeah that will be about 50 bucks... look online and fuck me dead its $180bucks !

Fuck sake.

Can you not turn the roller you have to the other side. Mine is 0.6 and 0.8 on the same one

The roller I have that came with the welder is .8 one side and .9 the other.

edit: A quick google suggests yours doesn't though.

0.9 is a weird size too, mainly gasless wire?

Nah it came with .9 and .8 gasless and hard wire rollers . Looks like they skimped out on the .6 wire roller though.

I found one for $122 so I'll buy that one on pay day.

Talk to Anton first, he can whip anything up.

Might even get away with adding a new groove between those two and have it line up ok with a fiddle of the rest.

On my welder it is just one set of rollers and you just flip them over to get the 0.6 groove. Took me years to notice.

Also you will probably get away with the 0.8 if you don't bend the hose too tightly.

I could try whip something up if you send me dimensions. Will be either hardened or made from something pretty hard like 4340

Thanks man but I'll just suck it up and buy one.  At the end of the day it's a one off cost but i was shocked at how expendy they were. The ones from allie express may be worth a shot haha

Nah pretty common, good around size. Use truck loads at work. Not gas less.

Generally the guide rolls have a tiny knurling on the radius/groove to help grip the wire. Not sure how easy that would be to replicate if they were machined. They almost look crimped. 

 

You can use 0.8 tips with 0.6 wire, but you may get a little 'arc wander'.

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure knurled rollers are made for flux core wire?

V for solid and U for softer wire like aluminium.

Yeh ya probably right to be fair. I've been around f/c alot so I'm used to them. I run knurled in my machines with solid wire. Saves having slippage issues with single roller drive and a 15kg spool.
