kyteler
Oh, I will. Don't you worry about that. I just need my mate to return my welder. Well... that and I think I might have to remove the motor from the donor car in order to get the steel from it, to save me having to form anything new and just cutting it all to fit from the other one. unhuman
Yeah should be easy enough with patch panels from the donar car. Found any more rust? Whats the rest of the car like?
durty
Just weld a square of metal over it? Out of sight out of mind?
unhuman
Welding is way too much work. Pop rivets.
kyteler
I'm not getting too stuck into it, to find more. There's holes at the base of each a-pillar other than that obvious abortion, I'll tidy whatever I find and need to for a warrant then it's onto the 110. yoeddynz
I found similar bodging on the rx3 in exactly the same place. But it was better hidden. So jealous of your workshop. One day when I grow up I'll have a workshop like that.
coldturkey
are you hacking up the sedan?
kyteler
are you hacking up the sedan? I will, yep. I found similar bodging on the rx3 in exactly the same place. But it was better hidden. So jealous of your workshop. One day when I grow up I'll have a workshop like that. One day when I grow up hopefully I'll still have this one. It's weird, on one hand it's all - Should have had a house ages ago, the other is still - what the fuck.. a house, you're crazy.
0R10N
Sooooo not surprised the coupe's decided to rot in that particular part of the engine bay, it's pretty much the norm for R30s. Hopefully you can sort with minimal fuss. Still keen for sedan parts if/when you start hacking it up!
kyteler
I think that whole left front section of the chassis has been replaced at some point in time. Also, Edwardo, send me greeeyull.
Dell'orto
These are unrelated to panel work, but you should buy them anyhow http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/performance/core-engine/auction-547322742.htm
kyteler
I have some pistons for the 110 already, new ones. I still might go a different way with that though. The 30 however, will be L20 for a long time yet.
0R10N
Goddamn pooey triple skinned section!
kyteler
Indeed! That clean patch is the previous "repair" from the other side. So they slapped that on one side and then tarred it in place before putting that abortion on in the engine side. Ah well... onwards, etc. there's no changing what's already done. Started to cut the screen out last-night as well, need to get the dash out to get the firewall padding out so I can weld a few bits and piece without fear of doom. Evan
you thought about sand blasting that section (or equivalent, i duno how thick that bit of steel is) to smash out all the rust you can? would suck arse for it to all just show up again in ~18 months time
kyteler
I need it ready for nats. So, cut out what I can find, rust kill, cavity wax, weld new, seal, paint, go go gadget skyline.

Toucan
I need it ready for nats. You need it to come together as quick as the buick. I would almost be keen for another such mission, almost haha
Spencer
I would never wish that kind of mission on anyone! but would be keen haha
kyteler
Hah, I wish I could muster a few hardcore OS brethren to get the car done in a week. Huge distance warrant chase to get it legal via sympathetic bogan, etc. I cut more of the windscreen seal lastnight, gave up after the mince for dinner was defrosted, have got the sides and top cut out, the bottom will be problematic, it won't come out easy without removing the dash and the dash won't come out easy without removing the screen. Stay tuned for the post where one or the other is broken and I throw my toys.
