Yeah, worth blasting. Painting is a little tricky as its pretty hard to get an even coat over the whole rim in all the curves Will get pick of mine as finished in silver up later this week. If I had more time I would have got them blasted at one place then dropped to the powercoater instead. Time is money tho so that is why I painted.

yeh i do, pretty crappy ones but yeh, ill give it a go. i actually have cream paint for when i paint my car(one day.......haha) so might use some of that to do the wheels.

took the leaky rim back to elite, they are guna fix it tomorrow. springs will be done tomoro as well. they have been cut at some stage so are getting them reprofiled to sit in the cups better, and will be a drop of 30mm. so hopefully will have it back together by tomorrow night :D:D

and got some bullet centrecaps to. look sweet imo

  • 4 weeks later...

I hope you have better luck with the Solex carbs than I did!

are they Solex Italy or Solex japan?

Linkages are a piece of piss to set up/make.

How are you planing on doing yours? Did you carbs come with a balance link between them?

they are off an alfa, so maybe italian? have looked closely for labels etc.

it hcame with a little bit of linkage hardware with it, so will just sit down and have a think about how to make them work. they were originally operated by a vertical bar that linked to the middle of the two. yeh it has what i think is a ballance thing mayjig between them haha. will put up sum better pics tomorrow

Sorry to be a buzz kill but get ready for backfiring/fires/over fueling/bitch of an idle etc

I can't remember the specifics but there is a slight difference in the OEM Alfa Solex and Dellorto 40's that make them a real bitch to get working on any other engine size/specs, I will have a hunt for my Weber/Dell book tomorrow to give you the specifics but I think its something to do with the size of the holes in the castings are different sizes to the generic aftermarket carbs?

I ran Alfa 1800 Solex carbs on my old Escort for a while and they made it an absolute pig to drive even after having the jets soldered and drilled to suit on the dyno by a Dellorto specialist (can't get Solex jets over here) and it still over fueled and wouldn't idle steady, not to mention every morning I had to start the van with the bonnet open with a wet rag on hand to put out the engine bay fires thanks to the fuel they would spit out.

They were replaced with Alfa Dellorto's that I had jetted to suit my cam etc, they were a slight improvement over the Solex's but not a lot (at least the fires went away lol)

I replaced them with a "generic" pair of Dell's that I fitted all the jets and chokes from the Alfa ones into and never had any problems with them for the 2 weeks I ran them before taking the van off the road.

If you can find somewhere that sell fitting kit parts separately its real easy and cheap to set up a linkage on a Kent engine using 5 parts from a kit, 3 brackets from an L300 window winder and 2 spherical bearings lol
