Brock-Lee
Does reverse work? Gutted about the not nice selection problems
peteretep
yeah reverse works ok, it was only getting the gearstick out of reverse that was the problem on the old box selection is ok, but as I had the old one apart I had removed all the 40 year old swarf build up but I didnt do that to this one so its a bit rougher, she'll be right

Horse25
i bought a quaife short shift for me escort box, makes the box feel brand new again, i also had a noise coming from my fan/heater, i wiggled the vents/shutters at the bottom and it seemed to fix it, some vibration of some sort i guess. bubblegoose
fuu ive been meaning to tell you this since nats, but couldn't find you then forgot in this picture you will be seeing your engine/carbs you have a big black pipe running across the top of the crabs with 2 brass 90's on it this shouldn't be there these 2 pipes are the atmos side of the slides and should be vented to air/airbox and is most likely palying with your throttle response and maybe even preventing full beans from being achieved apologies for late advise
peteretep
hey cheers for the input man, no worries about being late as I have had the head off for ages so I havent been using it. Reason I put the tube there was because on the dyno, the slides were rapidly rising and falling and it was mentioned that they may be losing power/making funny things happen, I then put the hose on and have put it back on the dyno again and it appeared to do it less, although I dont know whether this is a benefit or not and what you would normally expect to see on a bike. Normally those lines would run into the airbox though? (ie being subject to box vacuum?)
bubblegoose
they have small black things on them (attached to the rubber hose) from factory that act as dampeners to smooth out the slide movment as seen on the left, the air boxes are ram air so not really vacuumed but meh maybe run both sides into one hose with one of those dampeners on? Testament
^ do it/experiment - like science!
bubblegoose
just went and checked one of those black things, its just a bit of mesh doesn't really do a lot, but still worth a shot at changing the flow and stuff
KKtrips
Fuck yes - I would nix the vacuum advance though - its only for economy.. also chuck this viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3914 in your first post of the build phread so I don't have to search for your thread each time I want to mention your golden gearbox.. RUNAMUCK
I say Pete, Thoes 1/8 npt tappings could have another far more awesome use. Unless I'm mistaken, thats the same thread used on nitrous oxide fogger nozzles. Just on ebay, and find yourself a nice cheap kit. You know you'll be so glad you did! kyteler
What's going on with your camber tops?
sentra
barts logic is sound, he had a rust hole in his datsun and wasnt mistaken when he thought it looked the same size as his supercharger,
bubblegoose
What's going on with your camber tops? i think it was something to do with the factory geometry being so out of whack
sentra
did you ever fix the random front strut?
peteretep
I figure while I have a vacuum advance I'll use it, and if one day I decide to use a vacuum booster, it may help, or as bart has suggested, nos may also be an option(this idea sounds best) Everyone always asks about the camber tops, its a wobbly old car assembled by goons, originally it had +2 & -2 camber which would have suggested that the car was bent or something, but I havent found any proof of this(or any of the multiple panel beaters), and those odd angles gave me the numbers needed. Clint took a photo of the data sheet when certing the car as he also was weary, I dont really know how else to explain it except thats what was needed. Also, regarding B gooses comments above, I will experiment with the piping when the car is on the dyno, hopefully I win with my piping I bought new struts and sold the old ones...
