  1. Past hour
  2. It's the hassle factor more than anything. What makes a 2000 car safer over a year than a 1999? Nothing, that's what. It's a stupid rule, but I don't expect a change.
  3. 1 year wofs on a classic car are a bad idea imo. If your getting upset over a 60$ wof then don't own a classic car. And if the upset is from needing repairs every 6 months then it shows the car actually needs work and isn't safe for 1 year so the 6 month is kinda doing its job But if jt passes who cares its probably the cheapest part of owning a classic car
  4. Today
  5. Broke out the angle grinder and created a space for the intercooler tried to be conservative left some structure in it so it's not all floppy 2x 8mm bolts and the intercooler is hanging securely off it. Now I can start making intercooler pipes and fitting up the turbo setup.
  6. Remembered a problem which cropped up with mine. Unless yours has been modded or is a CF2, you'll have drum brakes all round. I found that even well balanced fronts showed signs of being out of balance. Narrowed the problem down to the drums. The worst one had the OD 5mm off center from the drum inner. Very poor castings. Used a mates big lathe to machine the od concentric and never had a problem again. I was told the accepted fix was to go to a place which could balance wheels in place on the vehicle. in the 80's there was one place in ChCh. No idea if any still do it.
  7. Took this to Frankton Thunder this year and to KFC once..... I reckon it's safe to pull off road now and make a start on the final push. Hoo roo bumper! I need an intercooler in here. Bumper support is obviously in way and power steering cooler just behind it. A bit of force moved the power steering cooler and its bracket easily enough.
  8. Yeah, I don't have expectation of it getting better
  9. Yeah .. I could have held for way more money ..but I got the car back cheap and sold things for what people offered..... I made my money back and enough to get my mk3 all legal.... so happy as with that
  10. Makes sense that it's 6 months from inspection date though.
  11. Fixed the rust hole, no pics cos boring. Made a heatshield for the alternator, first drilling and tapping some brass hex to stand it off, then some CAD, then some shiny so it reflects heat; Then I grabbed the pretty non functional catch can that I made for the truck, modified it so the wire wool was less in quantity and right before the outlet rather than at the inlet, which is why I suspected it didnt work well, then gave it some chode so it would fit in the engine bay; Went and filled it with some 95 as it was pretty low and it definitely needs some time spent on tuning, the low throttle popping and banging sounds good but the afr tells me its not right. Man it feels good to drive tho, the combo of the gogo and the noise is pretty great. If anything it sounds better now the air filter is on, a really purposeful growl.
  12. So the car has pretty much been all sold. *Motor is going into an escort. *loads of parts are going to others to keep other st170s on the road *and the rest of the car is going to palmside to be a race/rally car ....so thats awesome.....no waste
  13. I'd go a hydraulic hose, or we used a hi temp braided line on our 12v compressor in our service ute as it gets farking hot. Or hydraulic hard line with some cutting rings?
  14. Need help. The pipe that goes from the compressor to the tank is to short. The fittings are M33 x 1.5 and the tube is about 35mm aluminium. I've seen some jokers using a nylon braided flex line which I'm not sure about. This pipe gets hot which is why they're copper or aluminium. Having said that the pipe from the compressor to the tank in my MS51 is nylon and it gets plenty hot. 10 years without and drama. So yea what do you reckon? Anyone got experience with a flex line straight off the compressor? Tell me what you think.
  15. This part of the article is a little concerning. The Tertiary Education Commission has told polytechnics and universities to lift their pass rates. .I hope it means they have to teach their material better rather than just letting the failing students pass anyway.
  16. Vested interests like the mta hate the 6 month wof and the 3 years on new cars so always push the other way. Possibly the vcc lobbies for a shift to 1 year for all.
  17. Not surprised. Vested interests pushing for it?
  18. You'd think in this day and age the computer would do it all for you. I expect if they tried to give it a 12 month WoF the computer would throw a fit
  19. Depends if the inspector is lazy or not. They need to input the expiry when entering the wof into the computer.
  20. What's the go with getting a wof 1-2 weeks early these days? Twice in a row now I have gotten 6 months from inspection date instead of 6 months from original expiry date.
  21. He must of been checking with his boss and when they sed its ok he just gapped it
