HumberSS Posted July 9, 2025 Posted July 9, 2025 Because nothing cements your status as an OSer like a vintage 2 stroke.. It's either a 75 or 76. They were sort of a trials bike but were sold in NZ as a farm bike as they had a really low first. I reckon it looks cool, could make a great street hack or a board track tribute. But I won't be doing either of those things. Yet. It has a decompression lever on the handlebar for pulling the power back to lug it during trials riding, interesting feature. This one is on pretty sound condition. Missing one side cover but I've already found that. Hasn't run for about 30 years. Leak in petrol tank at the seam by the seat. Was painted in the more modern kawa green but I will find something close to the period correct metallic green for it. I've sourced a decal set too. I pulled the carb and threw it in the ultrasonic cleaner. It was fucking gross but came up good except the idle/pilot jet is blocked, it has corroded in place and I don't think I'll be able to extract it. I could try running a tiny .3-.5mm drill bit through it in-situ or perhaps run 4.2mm bit through the whole jet and try retap. The idle jet is common to lots of things right up to present day surprisingly (kx65 etc). I guess if I fuck it I do know where another carb is. Have soldered tank leak and cleaned rusty shit out. Will swish some rust kill around inside. It's running fucking mint. Pulses really nicely and the oiler appears to work. Next mish is to get tank on and take it for a strap then I'll go over the details. Not sure if it's a keeper, it kinda followed me home and the dude I got it off had other things I would like so flashing some cash for this was a strategic way to get first dibs on the other things... 6 Quote
fletch Posted July 9, 2025 Posted July 9, 2025 I just happened to be passing and wandered into the workshop after the first run. I was greeted by a cloud of 2t smoke and a grin from ear to ear. Bit of tidying up and you'll be able to join the wheelie boyz in waitara 1 Quote
tortron Posted July 9, 2025 Posted July 9, 2025 try a soldering iron on the jet, good for direct heat on small stuff to help loosen it up 3 Quote

HumberSS Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 Thing with these old shitters is that everyone that's into them is 100 years old and doesn't use the Internet. I got onto an old boy in taupo for a replacement tank and carb. Took a few months to finally get the pigeon to deliver... I ultrasonic'd the carb and rebuilt the seized petcock. The tank got filled with evaporust and sprung a small pinhole leak. I wire wheeled the area to find a few more offending bits, proceeded to mig these up. All was going ok at this point... Took the tank home and poured in half a litre of juice. Reassembled the carb and slapped that back on. Would not start unless I squirted fuel in the carb - clearly the bowl wasn't filling. I had neglected to blow the carb out after ultrasonic. I also noticed another area sleeping on the tank - a wipe with my finger revealed a small piss stream...Yay. Id managed to get an hour or so quite from the kids to get to this point and they were heading off for a bday party for a couple of hours. Rip back to work and mig the other hole up, blow the carb out and we should be away I thought. Well because I was on very limited time at this point I thought a few short cuts were in order. I shook a few fasteners around in the tank to dislodge any further rust (yes should have done first) and poured a few hundred mL of liquid soap in and shook that around to mop up the fuel, emptied. Ground the hole out and hit it with the mig. YOU DUMB CUNT BOOM. YES, I DID THAT. You see I watched my old man do this once too being lazy, and thought I'd never do that. What a dick. An impressive result nonetheless. Future me problem.. So I gave up and flogged a tank off the kids pw50 and beat the dick out of this thing up and down the road in anger. The milestone was achieved but man I have to stop rushing things. Fucking dadlife. 2 3 Quote
HumberSS Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 Actually surprised this came back into shape as well as it did. I thought I'd be hunting for another tank. Hydraulic press and a little hammer work ftw 2 Quote
