Hurmeez Posted August 21, 2020 Author Posted August 21, 2020 I can try but I wouldn't hold my breath. It's actually my mates dad that's doing the work and I don't know how tech savvy he is. Quote
Nominal Posted January 23, 2021 Posted January 23, 2021 Nice work on that outer guard - it's hard to do that sort of welding without making a mess of the panel. 2 Quote
Hurmeez Posted January 23, 2021 Author Posted January 23, 2021 Thanks man. I think I'm slowly getting better at it with each panel that goes on. Quote
yoeddynz Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 Yeah Its looking good man- Good work on the welding. I always like seeing an update on this thread! Quote
yoeddynz Posted July 14, 2021 Posted July 14, 2021 Great to see an update- you're still doing a bloody nice job of this too!!! Quote
Otodat Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 That's terrible dude, sorry you had to go through it. 2 Quote
Hurmeez Posted July 20, 2023 Author Posted July 20, 2023 Thanks mate. It could have been a lot worse. We were only renting so we had the relative luxury of being able to just bug out and not have to worry about it long term too much. Our landlords were really good about it too and there was no stress between us as we all delt with the clean up afterwards. We are also very lucky to have generous family support so we were safe and dry as soon as we got out the night of. There were people who lost a hell of a lot more than we did so we can't complain at all. 4 Quote
yoeddynz Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 I'm just super stoked to see that your back on here posting updates. Glad to see this project still moving 2 Quote
CUL8R Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 Lucky you got through that, what a shit situation and that amount of water is pretty impressive/scary +1 good to see you back on here/updates, life definitely gets in the way sometimes 1 Quote
Hurmeez Posted July 22, 2023 Author Posted July 22, 2023 Yep pretty wild. It went from me taking the piss out of my mates with puddle pictures to us leaving with babber on our backs in waist deep water in the space of an hour and a half. I think once the drain on the road blocked up it was all over. The house was below road level and we ended up with a torrent spilling over the footpath and down the driveway. I've struggled with motivation and time after the wee one turned up tbh. Trying to light a fire under my own ass with a wedding date in just over a years time, so we'll see. It is fun to be posting again though. 5 Quote
RXFORD Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 Holy shit that sucks heavy. Crazy how quick things can turn pear shaped. On another note, an easy way to fill bigger spot weld holes, even with a half drilled lower flange is to chuck a heat sink under it. Copper or Ali block will stock you blowing through but can still get a nice plug weld. Sometimes saves having to replace flanges. Nice work though! Quote
Hurmeez Posted July 22, 2023 Author Posted July 22, 2023 Good shout. I am intending to back up the flange where I can regardless, just very paranoid about blowing through. My mig is a very cheap Bunnings jobbie and I'm pretty shit at MIG regardless all things considered. Quote
VitesseEFI Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Some very classy panel making happening here. Looks proper! I hear what you say about the hours vs. Buying panels/section - but do they actually fit without hours of fettling anyway? Getting close now - keep on it! Quote
yoeddynz Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Ditto that man ^ Your workmanship has come on in leaps and bounds and is properly good quality work. Wow! Plus- if you'd bought the repair parts then we'd not get to watch you create stuff which is far more interesting for us. 1 1 Quote

Hurmeez Posted July 5, 2024 Author Posted July 5, 2024 Yeah you definitely have a point about the quality of the remanufactured panels. It's especially tricky for the Mk2 Estates being a bit of a bodge job of hybrid panels between the Mk1 and Mk2 shapes meaning no one actually offers the correct panels I would have needed. Having said that, both outer sills are from Palmside and they're honestly not too far off. Certainly faster to fettle than brand new panels. If seems like a bit of a lottery as to which panels turn up in decent nick or not. I've watched a lot of panel beating YouTube since first starting on the car nearly 10 years ago. That's all I can really credit with my improved abilities. Definitely recommend the following: Cornfield Customs, Carter Auto Restyling, Make it Kustom, Ressurected metal shaping, Wray Schelin's Proshaper Workshop, and of course Binky (like anyone hasn't heard of that at this stage). Jesus maybe I can see why it's taken so long to do the car when all the channels are listed in a row like that. Less watchy more doey is probably wise. 7 1 Quote
