nice wagon, I restored one exactly the same some years back, same colour and condition (all my pics disappeared off the server so will re-upload on the thread). I have bought a GS126 crown wagon with the 1GE boat anchor, am after some panel parts so please let me know if you come across any parts down in CHCH.

Have you managed to find the right rear light? there are a few of these wags over here in Australia I could keep an eye out for you.

I had this sinking feeling about how that new engine was going to go.

1g-e's are heartbreakers

Got a spare bellhousing so you could at least comp test the other 1g before spending time on it

Yeah, do a quick comp test and put the original engine back in with the new bits maybe. Wont cost you anything but time. If its done 280ks its probably already had a head gasket replaced by now haha.

i would say jzge at risk of being shunned by the straight pipe crew, my conversion has cost around 3k with 2k of that being w55, bellhousing, clutch, flywheel and x6 manual conversion so if you can source those parts cheap you will be laughing

1jz is actually a 1jz-fse which has electronic throttle etc, would probably be a massive headache. Not looking to convert to manual at this point either, unless something really cheap comes up
