RUNAMUCK
Have you kitted the carb yet? They run like a bag of hairy arseholes if the gasket on the top of the bowl fucks out.

AllTorque
I'd be checking for intake manifold gasket leaks. Have you set the tappets on the new motor?
Beaver
Its a new gasket, whats the best way to check? Yeh I checked the tappets, they were pretty much spot on. Im not 100% on my tehnique mind you....
Truenotch
Squirt brakleen around the manifold and see if the teens change. Edit - teens is an autocorrect for revs, but it's lol so I'll leave it.
KKtrips
So wait - wut - you have zero vacuum at idle but you gain vacuum when you open the throttle?
AllTorque
Did you make sure ALL the old gasket was off the head and manifold? To check you can run a slow garden hose over it while idling and you will hear a sucky sucky. Was the gauge vacuum hose a snug fit over the nipple? You should be able to feel it sucking on your finger if you pull the vacuum hose off and cover it with your finger. Might also be worth doing a compression test, being an unknown motor. AllTorque
Another thought. You haven't tapped into a distributor advance port have you?

I loled. WIll give this a whirl. So wait - wut - you have zero vacuum at idle but you gain vacuum when you open the throttle? Zero at idle, zero at revs, but a blip of vacuum (just over 10) when the throttle slams shut Did you make sure ALL the old gasket was off the head and manifold? To check you can run a slow garden hose over it while idling and you will hear a sucky sucky. Was the gauge vacuum hose a snug fit over the nipple? You should be able to feel it sucking on your finger if you pull the vacuum hose off and cover it with your finger. Might also be worth doing a compression test, being an unknown motor. Yeh I gave the face a good clean up before fitting new gasket and carb. Have compression tested the motor and its 150-160 on all four. Vacuum line is snug as a bug in a rug. Another thought. You haven't tapped into a distributor advance port have you? Nah just took out a blanking plug near the base of the carb (but on the manifold runners intself) and screwed in a threaded nipple. Beaver
Yeh i can suck on it and make vacuum, but that doesnt mean its accurate I guess
KKtrips
Gauge sounds fucked. Bring it to the lockup on Thursday night and we can try it on the Commy to see how it compares to the factory Commy gauge.
