Unfortunately not. Wof failed on belts this time around so need to grab a couple of new belts.

Going to plan, will have recheck and wof before next thursday.

what was wrong with the belts? Frayed? mine are pretty frayed but always seem to pass. No tears or cuts but just sort of 'furry' in places.

Mine aren't frayed much, a little furry but the webbing has gone hard and quite faded. They are no longer "supple".

TBH I wouldn't feel comfortable with it restraining me in a big crash - but that's more that they adjust poorly and sit low over the shoulder compared with a modern inertia reel belt.

Last WOF they weren't an issue (amongst the 17 other things that were), whereas this WOF they were a problem - goes to show how subjective the WOF process is - for the record I did fix the other 17 things!

The new stance looks good. A little bit of low really sets these cars off.

Leads to me recalling the (bad) old days of rebuilding a Chevette 1256 in the bedroom of the flat I was living in. Apart from never staying in tune (electronic ignition should help that) it went OK.

Take it to Custom Works in Wingate and get Grotty to hot tank it. Tell him I sent you.  Grotty is on the forum. But doesn't post much. He is also Seedy's boss.

Took SWMBO's Chevette on our honeymoon back in '89 - drove from Christchurch to the Bay of Islands, great wee beast, would sit flat at 115kmh on all but the windiest roads.

 

Nice short-throw gearlever, neutral handling, just needed another 60bhp...

Yeah plan was to hit up Grotty / Seedy borrows my trailer all the time so owes me a favour with his boss.

 

Will get them to machine the head, valve grind, etc as well.  Needs a shave to raise compression as well.
