mad_max
I have just bought a 180sx with a ca18det. I went to check the oil and the end of dipstick is now there. Put my mates dipstick in there and it didn't go in properly so the end is stuck in the tube, I have also learnt the tubes do not come out without dismantling the whole engine. Is there a way I can check oil without it until I fix it. I don't even trust driving it ATM. As it has an oil leak which I also have to fix Not after any comments telling me to fix it because I am! Just want to now if it's possible so I can drive it to a mates hoist to fix it up

SHGWAG
Can you not use one of those magnets on a stick to pull dipstick end out? Back when I had the escort, I knew to top up the oil when the sump gasket stopped leaking...
coldturkey
Seems weird that the end would be stuck in the tube, would have thought it would just fall into the sump if it broke off. If you were going to drive it, I would just drain all the oil, look up how much oil it takes and put just that much in. Bear in mind that about half a litre to a litre will stay in the engine, so just subtract about 0.75 of a litre off. You can generally run about a litre less than the "full" mark and it will be ok anyway. I wonder if you couldnt drop the sump off and peer up the dipstick tube to see whats causing the blockage? felixx
If you wanted to do this Jew Spec, you could even re use the oil that drained out
Steelies
speaking of jew spec, currently i have a bent piece of wire as my dip stick. after i jacked the wagon on the sump, the previously repaired dip stick wouldnt fit, then it broke off at high tide mark and the bit is still in the sump somewhere. welding rod dip stick 4 years later.. Seedy Al
Depends oh where he end broke tho mate. If it broke half way, then it would will drop into the sump, but still be stuck in the hole also. Anwyay, two threads for the same thing. LOL
DJZ
Are you sure the dipstick tube doesn't come out? The RB ones are just pressed in, CA should be similar?
tortron
drill a hole in the side of the sump fill up with oil till it overflows - just like a scooter gearbox
Seedy Al
Yeah to be honest I would have thought It should be removale Probabaly not fucken easy though. Most I have seen need to be knocked out oft he bottom from underneath with a drift. However, you can also sometimes just wiggle them out. but once again, i know nothing about ca's

unhuman
As above. Just so happen to have a CA18DET in the garage, bit of squeeze I know but if you can reach it it looks like it would pop out.

Vai-Man
you should be able to get it out with some vice grips, and replace it with another tube? or do what i did with my old pinto drive till oil light comes on going around corners then put 2l in, rinse and repeat. JoKer
oil light ^^ so simple but uhoh when that fecker comes on!
mad_max
The tube won't come out because of the shape of it. I've looked online and most people bend the shit out of them and normally end up breaking. The sump also doesn't look like it'll come off in a hurry. Heaps of things in the way. Man these ca18dets are cunts to work on!
