  1. so whats the dealio with re reging a car that has a cert? keen on a jag with a cert for mods only fell off the system last year? as far as i understand the cert is still valid? just need to go though the check. is this correct? also from reading through its pre 89 and i can prove previous rego in nz so its not to harsh?
  2. you should be able to get it out with some vice grips, and replace it with another tube? or do what i did with my old pinto drive till oil light comes on going around corners then put 2l in, rinse and repeat.
  3. puting the plug on the block and cranking you mean? is it in a car? if your not getting spark at any plug check the ht lead. getting power to the coil?. get a multi meter and check
  4. yup thats the one haha. only had 30k the rebuild aswell which pisses me off. talkd to the man who recond it who told me to get fucked haha. at least the head came back crack free.
  5. my mechanic puled the head off, said it had gone between the water gally and bore on cylinder number 1 right next to the head bolt. funny thing about that is the headbolt was missing a washer. he reckons thats probly why it went there. the guy who replaced the head last time obviusly missed it
  6. Yea i pulled the thermostat its still pushing heaps of water out its just turned brown and frothy so pretty sure its the head and its gone between a water and oil galley now. Time to price up a replacement head etc and sort some time to do it, any cheap cars for sale to get me to work in the mean time
  7. Has around 290,000km on it had a new head and gaskit at 140,000 then again at 265000 it has a full history and around $6500 worth of recipts with the last job inc rad recore, new head, headbolts, seals, belts, water pump, alt, injector pump etc. Well i whipped out the thermostat and ran some powerball though the system, The coolant came out bright green like the day it went in there and the flush didnt seem to bring out anything, i will get it cleaned and checked by a pro anyway for peace of mind. Whos good? Abel smith? capital? I also checked the thermostat in a bowl of boiling water it only seemed to open 2/3mm so im guessing that aint right ill replace that tomorrow. Took it for a drive down the gorge and back up around jville got to about half way on the temp going up in 5th. which seems alright. I can see good coolant flow accross the rad but it still filled up the expansion tank and pushed about a litre out of the radiator, could that be the cap? the rubber seal doesnt look to bad, ill replace it anyway.
  8. I brought a 96 l200 4x4 turbo diesel non intercooled a year ago. It had a new head belts water pump etc with all receipts done by diesel and turbo, about 30k ago. First issue was it got to about 3/4 on the gauge going over arthurs pass 6 months ago, didnt think anything of it due to the massive hills and being fairly loaded topped up the water and all was sweet, 3 months later going over the dessert road and round the lake to omiri it got quite hot again spiting coolant out the overflow but after coasting back down the hills it cooled down a bit so i refilled and bleed the system and it was sweet getting back to wellington, replaced radiator cap thermostat and flushed the system. This weekend another 2 months after the last incident, i went up to ohakune and it was pushing coolant out and getting warm by waioru so i stopped and let it cool filled up and went 30 kms to ohakune bleed the system drove it around seemed ok so headed back started getting noticeably hotter on the climbs out of taihape over viniger hill and into feilding let it cool in palmy at a mates house and was ok back to wellington. It is bubbling into the expansion tank and out the rad when the cap is left off, it pushed out about a litre from palmy to welly and seems to get hot when you have a long climb or start pushing it above 100ks. Any ideas? BHG? where can i get a coolant test in wellington? tldr; mitsi diesel overheats probly a BHG
  9. Well i stopped updating this for a while due to lack of internet and i had could work inside so no more excuses for bad weather haha Well since i last updated the house has been finished and we have been living here for about 3 or 4 weeks got the Code of compliance from the council etc so there are only small jobs to do now such as get the garage cleaned out and get the fiat in there. i have a few pics i will try and do a proper update with all the pics etc soon but since the last of the weatherboards were done it was pretty straightforward it took 3 days to gib a day for the timber work (skirting architraves) a week for the plaster a week for paint and about another week for the fitout eg kitchen/bathroom and electrical. aswell as a few weekends finishing of the roof flashings, cappings and all the little pieces that needed doing. When i do it again i will pay someone to paint the fucking thing painting sucks. Kitchen cabinets in and painting etc Stormwater drains The finished kitchen unpainted exterior but with the driveway down. The exterior has 1 coat on it now i will probably wait till summer untill i put another couple on.
  10. I have building and contractors insurance so it should cover the damage, heat pump and bath etc, wont cover the tools or usable items eg nails so for a couple of saws and consumable items im probably $4000 out of pocket oh and insurance excess aswell. The funny thing about being a builder is that it is as actually cheaper to just replace tools as they get stolen than it is to insure them, so say you buy a $2000 saw and it gets stolen after a year they will only pay out 1/4 of its value. so you pay $500 in premiums and they give you back $500 for your $2000 saw Not a fan of the RAB board tbh so much slower than paper haha, why does it have a bad rep up there though? The wind zone is 54ms's so its just over very high so had to be specific design as opposed to 3604 and the only way we could do it was using RAB board with a written guarantee from hardies. Brick clad/vineer houses also make me feel like throwing up haha The drawings were drawn up by my gf's father who is also helping me build it hes a builder aswell so its designed with construction and price in mind, all built to 3604 specs so no need for engineers or architects , but i am happy with it i will try and get a floor plan up aswell. True, only ever dealt with Very High at the worst. So using RAB board, you do particular nailing to get bracing units or some such? Ha, 3604 is pretty fucking shit aye. I guess that's the advantage of designers, they know what's common and understand shit and are like an objective POV on building, as they aren't gonna design it to take ages and cost heaps (builder has vested interest). Obviously that isn't the case with yours due to family, just pointing out to others that a builder would generally never do the drawings for such a job Shitty about the theft. Will keep an eye/ear out regardless of location. Scumbags aye Yup you nail it off similar to Braceline GIB i cant rember the exact units it gives though, and yea builders wont do you the drawings haha, 3604 is shit it is very limited i understand the need for designers etc if it was gonna be a home for me to live in forever or a final home i would get it designed, but like every industry there are good and bad ones you just gotta be careful. I doubt they'd be that clever. But it seems that way! Yea i have to say it was a pretty professional job imo, but people do shit things to get their next fix or whatever, i reckon it has been scoped out though heatpump had only been in for a few days to dry the frameing and it was the only night the saws where there because i had to do some frameing..... maybe me being paranoid? On a lighter note i might get my whiteware delivered in big flash trucks and sleep in the bath tub with a chainsaw
  11. Well the house got burgaled last night the bastards took the heat pump off the wall and outdoor unit a compound mitre saw a table saw all the fucking nails bolts glues and foam etc the fuckers even took the bath. So if anyone sees pepole selling cheap shit any info would be great. Its a Fujitsu 6.5kw heatpump a dewalt slideing compound mite saw and dewalt table saw. They also fucked a window frame and the garage door. So fucked off at the moment

Yea and if you stand on the roof you can see porirua harbor and pahutinui inlet haha This will be the first house. It was pretty difficult finding a bank who wanted to lend on the build and to people our age as well (im 21 partners 20), they want fixed price contracts a valuation for each progress payment the only bank that would come to the party was ASB but they have been great to deal with so far. I would also recommend building if you can you can get a lot more for your money but you have to be careful like going though quotes and contracts and making sure you know what your getting there are a lot of traps out there if you don't do your research. When you do get to that stage i can recommend good builders and have a chat about it all if you want. the lighting is standard down lights to the kitchen lounge and batten holders elsewhere im running wires in the wall for home theater but i cant afford to put it all in place at this stage. It might end up as a rental later in its life if all goes to plan anyway haha.
  13. Well i thought i should chuck this up seeing as a few people seemed interested and its a good way of me keeping a time line haha. Started building this house around the end of may decided i needed to do something sensible with my money for a change. Have been building it after work and weekends so progress hasn't been rapid but i have had plenty of help. Situated in a new subdivision, brought the section about a year ago with the intention of the house being done by now, but useless council me being lazy etc haha The spec is: 3 Bed 2 bath and unfortunately i could only afford a single garage/workshop Concrete Slab Floor Prenail frames and trusses colour steel roof, 15' pitch gable end RAB board acting as building paper 180mm Linea bevel back weatherboards & Hardies soffits Aluminuim joinery with double glazeing Heatpump The rest is pretty standard. I am hoping to keep the build cost under 140k and am on track so far. Footings dug and slab boxed Ring foundation poured Slab poured Prenail frames and trusses up RAB board going up RAB board finished, soffits up, fascia on as well as all roof frameing and purlins Roof down Weatherboard on This past weekend we managed to get the barge flashing's and capping on the roof as well as all the pink bats in Gota wait for it to dry before we can start lineing the rain and weather in wellington has been shit and it means all the framing is still quite wet haha Any questions fire away more than happy to discuss and/or help
  14. Yuh smaller pully on the alt would work but might stress the alt at high revs? In the fiat the gauge pretty much reads the same 12 at idle but 14 when on the move, Your lights etc dont go dim or the stero cuts out or anything at idle do they?
  15. Pretty much. Cam chain driven heavy hard to tune and not very powerful haha, have a look on some uk message boards about them such as tramp drift and the ford sierra owners club there are a few blokes who use them and tune them. But bassicly everything you want to do with it will have to be custom eg exhaust manifolds cams etc. The chains tend to wear the tensioners quite badly and go bang replacement parts are expensive and hard to source in NZ they also have a tendency of blowing head gaskits and warping heads. A positive though is the MT75 box is pretty strong and there quite tourqey haha. so basicly get a pinto.
