EURON8
Apparently questions have been asked about our house mods. (Excuse the huge photos. cbf resizing) Firstly , we tackled the hydros. nothing says balla like a 3 walling, sparking house. Well actually... So Chickitys parents re-did their kitchen so we claimed the old one. With some help from ryanfels we had t out and on the trailer one saturday. Sunday Chickity and I unloaded it into the garage. This Saturday just gone, we removed the the top cabinet. (used to be above the one in the middle where the un prepped walls are.) Then the bottom came out. and a few lino tiles. More have been removed since the photo. FYI: sticky down lino tiles are easily removed by giving them a quick heat up with mapp gas and then they peel back so easy. outside kitchen bits, Next up will be moving the hot water cylinder into the laundry. Currently its in the corner of the kitchen to the left of the gunners/mini signs. Wont be going far. laundry is on the other side of the wall so should be real easy for $tephen to plumb it all up. then the rest of the plumbing. sink and oven are kinda of swapping places. Then demo. my favourite. Yay for outside stainless parts washing bench!
ryanfels
You going to leave the wooden floor exposed?

KIRK
mean. I've been reading the internet about house building/unbuilding and it says lino(up into the 1990s) used to be stuck down with asbestos or lined with it or something like that so maybe investigate(get it tested) before you go sanding back the floors under the old lino. OldNathan
If under the top coat it is whitish and hairy fibre then if you do anything just wet it when lifting. Can even be diamond ground as long as its wet. Those tiles wont be asbestos though. Looking good guys
Chickity
It's vinyl, not linoleum, and doesn't appear to be stuck down with anything more than a standard adhesive. Not too much of a problem if it's actually in the tiles anyway, since it's only an issue once it gets airborne, and it can't escape from the tiles unless we somehow vapourise them... SP450andLE
Pulled the vinyl tiles off out floor, then went and ripped some skin off my feet from standing on the leftover adhesive. Shit was stroooong. Looking good, do my house next eh?
Chickity
The floor is quite sticky. The cat doesn't like it and walks like a retard when she has to cross the un-tiled part. Socks are the worst. Once we clear the room entirely next week, will get the belt sander in and sort it out. Gonna stain it before we put a new top coat on. Will eventually do the rest of the house too, but since it's full of stuff, will be one section at a time. The boards are Tawa, which is a pretty bland breed of wood, and the standard clear gloss look is a bit outdated. Will be going with a darker coloured floor, which should be balanced by the cream walls throughout the house. Bit more of a contemporary look. SP450andLE
Ooh, contempomarary. We put wooden tiles down (from a big shop place), through our granny flat and kitchen. Looks ace tbh, easier then resurrecting the wooden floor
Chickity
Unnecessary/more expensive/then you have that little awkward change in floor height to deal with. Plus you have to seal them to stop all the grime getting inbetween, so, once you've prepped the floor, laid the tiles, sealed them... it's not really any less work than prepping the floor, rubbing a stain in and then sealing it.... Ned
My old man rocks white wooden floors. Quite nice!
Chickity
Chris is unkeen for white-washing. I did suggest it. Dark works fine for me, and he likes that look, so that's what we'll go with. Please build me a wallpaper removal robot.
KKtrips
FYI Hello Kitty Joe/Goat/Flange's Dad does floor sanding - although you guys are some distance away from his area..
Chickity
Its not a huge room. Although it does now echo. So we should be able to manage it. Will be the arguements over what gets done in which order/which colour/who does what etc that'll slow us down....

Until you get the floor sorted you can sprinkle flour on the floor and sweep it up. Gets rid of the stick. Works a treat. Stops our knee pads sticking to that crap when we are preparing for vinyl.
