CUL8R
I can confirm you dont need the dash cluster, we are running a redtop beams in a ST202 celica (wasnt originally a Beams powered one) speedway car, with the stock ecu, and it isnt using the dash cluster. Dont ask me how its wired , cause I've no idea in the least - electrician relation did it...
Brennan
cheers man, thats what i want to hear, same here i have no skills with electricity what so ever.
CUL8R
Yea I hate it immensely, at a push I could possibly get some photos of the wiring to ecu, Dependant on how close to the plug pins its taped up.
nothingsfree
Yes it can work. A mate did it to his, before turfing it and going Link. From memory he got it down to a few wires that needed to be wired in, cant remember tho, was a while ago.
Truenotch
Roman will know what to do here. I think he had issues with the redtop in his SW20 needing a 5v speed readout but was able to overcome it. Pretty certain his Carina runs with the original dash from the car too. Toyota ECU's are normally pretty clever when it comes to cutting shit out of the loom - unlike european stuff. hyjkd
did you find a place to widen your wheels? as i know a place here in wangas that can do it
Brennan
was going to use Howat engineering or Juniors Kustoms in wieelington, both around $80 per wheel. Whats the place in Wanganui? do they do a good job?
be4ver
New render of what i am hoping for... Fingers Crossed! these renderings your doing are fucking awesome man how are you doing them?
OSM Garage
Go the Sigma steelies. Wish they came in 15"
Brennan
Not really "renderings" as such done with Photoshop from lots of images. And yea i wish the sigma rims where 15's too, I have seen them welded inside blank 15x8 rim barrels before that you can buy from transport wholesale place, but im not sure if im keen on 15's on the corolla or 14's
Truenotch
I reckon 15's for ease of getting cool tyres... Unless you want to go for 225/40/14's like Simon has (they can be hard to get though).
Brennan
why 225/40/14's? is that the lowest profile you can get for 14's?
Simon
Because the manufacturer specs from Toyo on the 225/40-14 T1R allow up to 8.5 inch rim width to get past a cert on wide wheels. I waited 12 months but got them slightly cheaper. I was real lucky. They aren't available in NZ but to get them in from Japan would be $1400 - $1800 depending on how you had them shipped. I looked in the states for a bit but couldn't find any there. I know AUS got a small shipment a few years ago.
oftensideways
although not legal 195/45/14 are cheap, small and look good on a 8.5 inch, thats what i'm running on mine.
Simon
Yeah that's what I will end up running. But I want it to be able to get certed on wide wheels without having to use balloon tyres which will enable me to be lower.
Brennan
Didn't think the cert guys would be that strict on stretched tyres. Might have to see what the cert man i decide on using says after i widen the rims. Anyone have any experiences with the certifier from levin? dont want to use either of the two palmy guys. Truenotch
I've heard that the guy in Levin is extremely dodgey and that he almost always misses things off the cert plate or gets things wrong. If that's what you're after go hard. Otherwise, what's wrong with using Danny?
