Well after yelling at it for a week, I finally got round to turning it over tonight. I rescued the bolt from the bell housing using a endoscope from jaycar and a lump of magnet taped to a length of plumbing solder. Worked real well actually.

Wired up the last couple of sensors and hit the key.

It built oil pressure eventually, all of the ECU sensors were reporting a reasonable value and the cam sensors were syncing with the crank sensor nicely.

So far everything as expected then. Next job is to get a timing light and make sure the cam sync is correctly calibrated. Its 99% sure going to be right but i would rather check before i go any further. I also need to make a throttle cable bracket out of some steel bar and wire in the idle control solenoid and throttle position sensor.

After that - i just need to push the car out of the shed, turn injection back on and see if it will fire. Mildly shitting myself as i always do at this point in the job.
