TTONEFOURTWO
Sorry to dig this old thread up. I have a set of 14s that I need new lips made up for. Is Gavin Bateman still the person to talk to? Any ideas on prices? Or is arrow wheels a better bet? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! kicker
This is relevant to my interests too. I was gonna try and get in contact with that crowd/http://www.41degreewheels.com/ when my 14's arrive/early next year Not sure if they are still in that business but can't hurt to give em a bell

Vintage Grumble
Anyone got a clue as to what it would cost/ball park figure, to have a set of 4 welded 3pc rims, split and have new outters slapped on, only 1/2 wider all round? Beaver
Anyone got a clue as to what it would cost/ball park figure, to have a set of 4 welded 3pc rims, split and have new outters slapped on, only 1/2 wider all round? From 1st post The above price from Batemans is only applicable if you are having 4 shells spun, so a total of $680+gst* to have 4 shells spun to any diameter and any width, within reason. Obviously additional costs include shipping to and from Wellington if you don't live there. That was 2 years ago so I imagine it will have gone up. Then if you are a lazy cunt add shipping fo all wheels, and labour to split and reassemble

TTONEFOURTWO
Sweet thanks guys. Have already got an engineer to take the small lips off so just need to get them measured up and order. So is the best way to contact Gavin Batemen through the mobile number on the 41degreewheels website?

Brock-Lee
/some one get some dies made up What do you spin them with? I can get dies machined for material + beer + probably more beer
Simon
You need a dirty big NC hydro machine to move thick metal. You can hand spin copper and like up to 1mm alloy if it's a high purity (soft as, vases, trumpets, kettles, light shades, pots etc). But wheels need to be like 5x that and aircraft grade alloy which is high tensile.
Brock-Lee
Fuck. Delete is too close to edit. NC as in CNC? Lofl does numerical control exist without the computer part.
Simon
Most of them are dirty old machines that are just NC but for a hundred grand or so you can have a nice CNC one. The 85K price on that business is basically hard assets only. The machine(s) and dies and a bit of stock. Have done some looking into it and there is a reason it costs so much to get bands made. You need to sink in substantial cash to get anything out.
Truenotch
I've also heard of this crowd in the Waikato... Will do some more investigating.
wannabe
This thread is excellent as I'm looking to get some new lips made up for my Panasports
Vintage Grumble
Being the dullard I am, i'm still not sure how they make the bands? Do the get a strip of material, wind it round a die, weld it, then press it? Or do they just press the shit out of a flat donut of material?
