mx_freak69
Hey all. Wondering if anyone has tried/failed putting a buick/holden 3.8L V6 into an escort? I'm unsure if it will fit in or not without uber modification to firewall etc.
peteretep
a guy who used to hang out on here, sykov6 had a buick in his mk2 cortina, which went alright from what i remember
two_days_late
I'm sure I remember one being on TradeMe, the firewall was pretty modified though... (like it was almost mid engined)

insanebrain
Didn't the factory experiment with Capri V6's ? I remeber something in Australian Muscle Car mag about Ford Sus importing one to test it's feasibility vs the XU1 Torana. If you wanted to keep it in the family you could use a V6 out of an explorer - apparently they are based on the Capri V6.
kyteler
Because that early Essex V6 was such a great engine?
insanebrain
think it was the cologne V6 but I could be wrong. I hear ya regarding the Essex
sholdowa
Yes they tried the Essex in a Mk.1. Engine's too heavy and it wouldn't go round corners. At all.
mx_freak69
should fit between strut towers etc? not so keen on extreme fabrication mods
MACKAZ
Yes they tried the Essex in a Mk.1. Engine's too heavy and it wouldn't go round corners. At all. Concur. But driven one in a straight line? FARK!!!!!!! Essex V6 is a happy little engine. Rev X millions, but not for long. V6 commie 1millionX superior. DO IT gets my vote.
RUNAMUCK
There was a guy who worked were I used to who had a mk1 escort with a buick V6 racecer. he was a tosser, and we didn't get along. So I don't know much more than that. (he wasn't a true car guy, so we didn't relate)
sholdowa
Essex V6 is a happy little engine. Rev X millions, but not for long. Hmmm... it's only got 3 mains, so revving it can be an expensive hobby. As you're suggesting I expect.
insanebrain
Is the cologne V6 based on the essex or is it a clean sheet design? Good ole' wikipedia confirmed that the 4l V6 in the explorer is a cologne derivative. I see some of the English guys are investigating the duratech v6 for an escort but I'm guessing still way to expensive here and as yet unproven Sorry for the post hijack. R100
I have a V6 commy engine in my escudo. They go pretty well for what they cost. I bought a complete running rusty VN commy for $190 to use the engine for my escudo. It now has a bathurst performance chip and bigger throttle body, headers and a shift kitted auto. Will do 14.9s allday long lol. Not a rocket ship but was never built to go fast. The earlier (non ecotech) V6 engine have a steel sump with the bulge at the front. being steel they can be easily modified rather than the all alloy ecotech V6's The engine wiring loom is real simple and easy to wire up the factory ECU. So I don't know much more than that. (he wasn't a true car guy, so we didn't relate)is that the clubcar from Ashburton ? a guy Plummer??i agrre with Paul, they are a very compact unit and super reliable and make reasonable power. work on 630 x 600 by 600 for sizing. can get more accurate measurements if you need, as there are 2 awaiting 'relocation' in my shed. RT
Is the cologne V6 based on the essex or is it a clean sheet design? . It's a clean sheet design the 2.8 Cologne... built in Cologne Germany where as the Essex is built in.. Essex England. Siamese ports and bosh k-jetronic injection 160bhp. Most people describe the 2.8V6 as lacking the low down torque of the Essex engine.
