  1. Today was dyno day to see what difference the kennelly cam and the T5 made, last time it was 245hp@rears and this time it pumped 310hp @ rears still on nasty 91 pump gas.. (actually I drained my motorbike gas before I left so it wasn't even fresh 91 :doubt:L). I was going to be happy with anything over 280@wheels so 310 is a pleasing figure. The cam made such a big difference and I would highly recommend for ANYONE wanting a camshaft to call PK from Kennelly Cams , don't just buy something off the shelf. He really knows what he is doing. http://www.kennellycams.co.nz
  2. Shit.. a year and no update. sorry boes. what have I done.. let me see not long after box swap I broke the speedo cog off the gearbox.. fished around for an hour with a flexi magnet to get the clip out of the hole cos I couldn't be bothered taking engine and box out to fix a speedo cog when the speedo was way out anyway. Ordered a GPS speedo and rev counter from speedhut.com and boogied it up into the original gauge cluster. The GPS speedo is a thing of beauty, keeps perfect speed and you can change gears as much as you want. Also does 1/4 mile times, 0-100 times, trip meter, top speed recording, blah blah, you can even input your existing mileage into it. The rev counter is equally awesome with a 3 stage shift light.
  3. PM replied.. 302 is a natural choice for a capri. sorry for the late reply.. don't come on here often.. holy shit what the hell happened to this site? New look = totally gay ftl
  4. Ok so my capri was originally a manual, then I put a V8 with auto box in it and certified it. now I've changed it back to manual. No cutting anything to put change the auto to manual. I've heard that I can just pay for an adjustment to my cert plate rather than having to re-certify the whole thing?
  5. This is real shit, Wayne is the best (and only to be honest) vehicle certifier in Christchurch. He is the most knowledgeable and helpful person and from my dealings with him for my Capri, he would never 'cut corners.' He does everything by the book in a fair and professional manner. There as obviously a motive for this, to stamp out modified cars in Christchurch. They know if they can cut Wayne out of the picture, it will be basically impossible to get a low volume certification. What someone does 'AFTER' they get a certification is outside of Wayne's control and it's completely unfair to Wayne and to everyone else who is into modifying cars in Christchurch. I will be donating what I can, I hope we can drum up some true oldschool support here!

    speedo gear problem

flanges yep, makes it possible to fit the engine/box in at once. But everything is a tight fit getting a V8 and T5 into the capri. When the clutch needs doing I'll pull the engine and box out. lol I'm just mad cos I've only just finished putting it back together.

    speedo gear problem

That wouldn't work either, can't drop the box down enough cos the exhaust h-pipe is in the way and can't get access to remove the shifter with the box in the car. Shifter has to be removed to get tail shaft off. Maybe one of these http://www.speedhut.com/custom_gauge_de ... er-971.htm

    speedo gear problem

well that would be options 1 then.. have to pull engine/box. (btw I'm not talking about the speedo gear on the cable, I'm talking about the plastic speedo drive gear inside box)
  9. Ok so after months of work getting engine and T5 in my car, everything is all going awesomely and I'm about to get engine tuned and cert done and enjoy some driving! But now a problem: Speedo was working, then it wasn't working. Checked speedo cable - all good. Checked speedo gear in the T5 Borg 5 speed and not good. Plastic speedo gear seemed to have slipped down the shaft a bit, tried to move it back up with screwdriver and ping, Speedo gear has gone. Here are the options as I see them: 1. Pull out engine and gearbox to fix (really don't want to do this all for a stupid little plastic cog) 2. Try and remove tail shaft from T5 whilst still in car. (most probably impossible as it's a tight fit) 3. Remove gauges and replace factory speedo with a electronic speedo with a GPS sender http://www.autometer.com/media_newsarti ... =3&aid=124 4. Get one of these and forget about it until the engine/box has to come out for some other reason: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 780524.htm Looking for any opinions on this.
  10. hmm how about an update.. So I removed the engine / box to change the C4 auto to a T5 manual. Got a world class T5 box with hurst short shifter on it. Also bought a new flywheel and clutch setup. New custom billet Kennelly Cam http://www.kcams.co.nz Pulled engine out. Removed camshaft for a new . Turns out I had a cracked rocker so send a pic to Scorpion Performance in the US and they sent me a new set for free. Last night we setup the pre-load on the new roller rockers: Then we setup the flywheel and clutch onto the engine.. realized we forgot the sandwich plate.. so had to take it off and do it again.. ran out of loc-tite and had to mission to nismos to get some more. Usual backyard garage story. Used a socket and a extension as a clutch alignment tool. Worked a treat. ready to go
  11. Where can I get some for my Ford 5.0 flywheel?
  12. I see.. that isn't going to work then. Capri ones are a single piece Enfords do a new rubber coupling kit I'll just do that I think
  13. It gets better, since the shipping wasn't much more - they send me a complete set of their latest rocker designs. Arrived this morning. Boom.
  14. not sure how the coupling is fitted to the column end. The factory column as a t-section where it mounts to the rubber isolator, you must have to cut that off or something?
  15. Already tried Palmside and they don't sell the rubber ones. Doesn't look like much isolation going on in those Gp4 ones? Is that just a solid connection?
  16. The old one wouldn't be much use unless it was in better cond than mine. Mine is ok, but it looks pretty old and I'd like to replace it whilst the engine is out. What is the gp.4 one? If it's new and it's rubber I'm keen!
  17. Yeah that could work.. it's hard to tell if that is the same as capri or not. But it probably is.
  18. Does anyone know where I can get a new Rubber Steering Coupling (10mm) for my capri? Should be the same as Escort. Don't want a Urethane one. They melt next to V8s. chur
  19. So I emailed Scorpion in the States and they ARE a stand up company, I had an instant response from the technical director: Jon, What you are seeing was the fault of an assembly issue we had a few years back. Chances are the rocker may have been cracked when the rockers were initially installed. It was a random problem. Because of shipping costs, I would suggest looking at the other 15 rockers to make sure there are no others. Normally we would have you send back the rocker for warranty but because of your location if you give me U.S.P.S. shipping info and how many rockers are affected I will replace them. I would ask that you destroy and discard the failed one. I will also have to know stud size and will need a photo of the top side of the rocker showing the Scorpion logo. I apologize for any inconvenience, Gordon It's great to see such good service and people who stand behind their guarantees even for international customers. Now that I know it's an assembly fault I'm fairly confident to keep running them - but I'll check all the others carefully as well.
  20. Yes, 302 windsor The Crane ones come in 1.7.. but not in a 3/8 stud which I need. Could go with the Comp Cams 1.7's.. approx $400+shipping http://www.compperformancegroupstores.c ... RockerArms or go Comp Cams stainless steel, $500+shipping http://www.compperformancegroupstores.c ... RockerArms
  21. well I've emailed them - I'll see if that respond. Even if they replaced them.. I've lost trust in that product. I'd rather buy Yella Terra but there are no 1.7s not sure what the best brand is for roller rockers?
  22. Has anyone had experience with these? We were doing a cam swap in my 302 last night - and when we pulled off the rocker covers to remove pushrods we noticed this The engine was professionally built and hasn't seen much abuse. Scorpion products are made in the USA and seem relatively popular but they are a cheaper brand. I've emailed them so I'll let you know what their response is like.

    pinto engine work

imo there's little point in putting a cam in a pinto without porting the head. I would talk to nismo.capri on here about getting some head work done - he really knows his pinto heads and how to get them flowing. memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=2818 Then I would send PK at Kennelly Cams an email and get him to do a cam for you, there is no better person for it. http://www.kennellycams.co.nz/Menu/Contact.php
  24. So I've removing my C4 auto to put a T5 manual in. Pulled out the auto trans lines tonight. Was looking at my auto-trans cooler and I did a nice job of mounting that! I considered leaving it there and using as an engine oil cooler - possibly not the best idea since it's full of trans oil.. But that got me thinking, when do you actually need an engine oil cooler? It can't be a good thing if you don't need one and it cools down your oil past it's optimum operating temp? I am using a bronco sump which has a reduced capacity to all other 302 v8 sumps. Approximately 500ml less than normal.

    CentreForce Clutches

well yeah it's a world class T5, mustang drive shaft and falcon lsd rear diff. don't do *that* many burnouts.. but it would be wrong not to be able to do em when I feel the need. But I do like to launch the car hard and peel the tyres at most sets of lights lol I don't want a heavy pedal breaking my firewall and don't want to be having to do a clutch again anytime soon so would rather pay more now whilst I'm at it if it makes any difference. But several people have told me just to stick a stock replacement clutch in since many people over clutch their cars. Or I've been told to pay twice as much for a centreforce dual friction clutch.
