Roman Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Sorry but yeah this is a sign that your engine is completely dead. It kicked the bucket 8 1 Quote
cletus Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Does it have factory cams / valve springs? Quote
Truenotch Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 Yeah, the motor is 100% factory aside from being refreshed before it went in. Quote
Stu Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Really weird one - is the face of the cam lobe true? Quote
Truenotch Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 I haven't checked the cam properly but it seems fine. I'll be checking to make sure the cam is straight and true though. Current theory is Valve float causing a chatter at high RPM and it's fatigued over time. 1 Quote
tortron Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Flathead tappets do that when they stop rotating Ling out Quote
Celica RA45 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 check your collets on the valves and see if they havnt moved ,looking at that bucket looks like you can see the shim impression ,are you still using ti val;ves Quote

Still using Ti valves as it was just a standard motor that we refreshed. I'll be looking into steel valves for the next build. Quote
Roman Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Hey @Celica RA45 here's a question... Since the manual engines run TI valves which are obviously lighter, does this mean they run a softer valve spring as well? Compared to auto engine with steel valves. Quote
Celica RA45 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 yes dave valve springs are different on redtop and black top manual or auto black top ,thats why the rev 500 higher cause of ti valves Quote
Celica RA45 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 so red top, grey top and auto beams uses same springs and valves 1 Quote
Celica RA45 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 also markku we have seen the collets move down the valve with ti valves and regrab the stem in different places to hold on .the weak link is the exhaust valve ,they have a tendency to drop heads Quote
Hyperblade Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Out of curiosity what rev limit were you running? Stock 7800? Quote

Truenotch Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 I wouldn't worry too much. I'm pretty certain my issues were caused by this abuse: 2 Quote

Hyperblade Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 I'm looking at getting a quick release steering wheel adapter like yours, how are you finding yours? Any issues/things to watch out for? Quality holding up ok? 1 Quote
