fuel
I could do but the trans tunnel isn't wide enough on mine around where the starter would stick out, whereas on that guys car he notched the trans tunnel to suit.
sheepers
what about putting the starter in the stock location and changing the bell housing to suit? its only a bump and two bolt holes? could cut/weld/make some shit to make it work i reckon. fuel
yeah that was another option for sure. the pajero bellhousing puts the starter on the drivers side which would be a bit busy with the steering box being there too, so being able to place it on passenger side would be good. ryanfels
theres a guy in hamilton that i know that just a bellhousing made to match a 4g63 to a w58. You want me to look more into it for you?
fuel
yeah mate definitely! ideally I would like to suss out being able to make multiple bellhousings, as I know there would be a definite demand for 6G7x to W58 bellhousings both here in NZ and in Australia. ryanfels
the guy replied and said "got mine made at HRP Performance 30 uclid ave hamilton was 1200 for the bellhousing 500 for hydrolic release bearing thing 7-- for custom clutch setup and flywheel machining product is good very good looking and works well from what i can tell not having the car running." fuel
haha yeah that's definitely on the high side, that's pretty much the price the guy out in waihi charges.
KKtrips
tried Castlemaine Rodshop - they do all kinds of weird bellhousing adapter kits.. http://www.rodshop.com.au/trans_conversions/2wd_trans.htm
Requiemk
Will you have room for parts on the way back up from swapmeet? can get that v6 parts and sort out etc

fuel
and yeah they have nothing for the V6s, only the 4cyl. no doubt if they make something up it will be in the $1000's too.
KKtrips
surely it cant be that hard to make an adapter plate if you had a 6G* gearbox flange and a W5* gearbox flange to copy from
fuel
one of the bigger issues is that the Pajero V6 bellhousing I have is considerably longer than a W55/W58 input spline, and adding an adapter plate in there is only going to make it worse. Toucan
Front half of pajero bellhousing an rear half of w5* bellhousing + join together
Spencer
you've gotta face that a one off bell housing someone else makes out of alloy will be up to and above $1000 that's around the norm for a crusty dellow bell. Only reason UZ ones etc are $600 is they have a big market. So you either pay ~$1000+ or you go the adapter plate route and customise the starter position. Probably want to go concentric release bearing to get the throw-out correct, it can be hard to get a fork 100% sweet on adapter plate setups and its much tidier. Depending on your shaft diameter there's saab or Holden ones that are cheap also can get one made in steel (Did sam tell you about that option?) would only be a couple hundy. Pick a gear box, get a spigot bearing and clutch that will mate the box to your engine and flywheel. Sit it all together on the floor and see if a v6 auto bell will work with an adapter or one of the bell housings that goes with the gearbox will work, Once its all sitting together it will be easy to see what has to be done. Its not going to be hard EDIT: haha escorta! was going to say that, wayne stz
KKtrips
I mean a sandwich plate between the mitsi motor and toyota gearbox.. thats what they use to do in the 50's - some bolts may line up even... its only got to be 15mm thick or so.. worst turns to worst you can space the flywheel and starter motor away from the motor to make up for the 15mm... or perhaps I am thinking about this much too simply and there are stresses and structural issues
KKtrips
or what Spence said..
Spencer
^ yea your on the money, its done all the time. Just need to sit it all together and see if an adapter plate will work
