Hungry Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Huge thanks to the organisers and riders for making this melee a great long weekend. Thanks Mof for planning the melee route, thanks Harry and Karl for the amazing lunchtime feeds and keeping the drinks ice cold, and thanks Josh for bike support and winning the highest cliff jump at Nelson Creek. Here’s a few of my photos: 2 1 Quote
RUNAMUCK Posted March 2 Author Posted March 2 FWIW, @JustHarry has able to beat this rim back into something resembling "round". (Despite me thinking it was game iver for this bike) and it continued to be a a force to be reckoned with...... 4 Quote
Popular Post RUNAMUCK Posted March 2 Author Popular Post Posted March 2 For those playing along at home, Friday all the massive pests converged at the rural abode of Mr and Mrs @Mof. we unloaded our bikes. (some more punishing folk rode from town) we stacked the chillybins with beers, waters, fizzy, and the flesh of dead animals. Mad dog @Pee Dubs rode down from welles on an untested bought site unseen bike. (no wof, no rego, no worries) subsequently a very late night was had by @holdenman, @Mof and @Pee Dubs doing missions to not only recover the bike from hanmer (mad dog did the molesworth solo!) But sourcing parts, and fettling to make the bike usable. Bikes unloaded, and everyone ktted up ready to ride, we fumbled through a pretty cringe pre ride briefing. And we were off! @Mof took us through some if his local back roads. They were deep with rolly gravel. It only took 5 mins for the first rider to drop their bike. (The first of many!) We bashed out to the back of Lake lyndon, (were and rider fell off) and into porters pass. Somewhere between arthurs pass and the old Christchurch road, route organizer superstar @obike @Mof's bike shit the bed. @Gomaxgo stepped up to the plate and let him ride his CT to navigate the prescribed route. (Kudos my guy!) After a brief beer stop at the Woodstock hotel, we stampeded into Lake mahinapua. The camping crew set up camp at the lake. And the snowflakes (smart people) checked into the lake mahinapua hotel Mrs @Mof made a mercy dash over from chch to bring over parts to fix his bike. (The next morning he was back in the game. An evening of eating and drinking ensued. The following day we left the lake, and shot out to lake kanerie. Then we hit the gnarly shit, and @DRAD1Stylez flat spotted his rim. A team effort saw him able to continue. we tackled maori gully rd. (Not a road) and tested ourselved. (A few gor few feet here) after a refuel at Honsons, we treked on to nelson creek for the night. Once again some camped, and some of us slept at the pub. Another great night of eating and drinking was had. (With some finishing way way too late) This morning, we were (mostly) up and at them. Due to a rider who was worse for wear after a few spills, a group broke off to head straight back to chch. We left Nelson creek and were on our way. We stooped by a nice lake. And from there you could see @Gloriavale. Then we headed back on our way. Due to a punctured tyre, the group that split off were delayed. And by a minor miracle, the two riding parties rejoined. After bashing through the passes, (and a huge bbq lunch!) We came back to the east side of the divide. The weather had been exemplary the whole time. Although we'd encountered drizzle on day three. Coming through the pass, we passed an invisible line where is went from cool and damp, to hot and dry. Following a massive cooked BBQ lunch, we pushed onto Springfield. Here the party which had split off in the morning parted ways again. And the remainder the group took a back road detour route to get back to chateau mof. Here we drank beers, held the prizegiving, speeches, hand shakes, and were on our way. The prize winners were, @Gomaxgo for falling off lots, Also @Spud1man for the same. Andrew Stanton for embodiment of the spirit of the rode. And @Pee Dubs got the utter mad dog trophy (which were need to post to him) for riding from so far, to ride so far, to ride so far back. (Congratulations Kyle) Of course this is the abridged version. Extra extre, EXTRA thanks go to @Mof for carefully curating the route we took. And @JustHarry @- i5oogt - and @Mouse (I'm not sure is that the same mouse?) For their tireless efforts as back up, and cooking lunch every day. Without these people, this event would not exist. 8 2 Quote
