Very partial to the second gen muzzy over the rest.

Blue should pop again with the chrome added.

Closest I got was a 75 mitsi gto.

a 75 Mitsi GTO is probably worth about the same as the Mustang now.

Yeah couple of Windsor plugs can be a bit awkward, can't remember which one, but one of mine is only accessible with the right combination of socket extension/universal joint attachments. Typically they're the plugs that never get changed or get cross-threaded by booger-fingered owners...

I've had to grind some off the OD of a plug socket to work on some tight locations.

Also you can use a spanner on the hex on the end of the socket for tricky ones.

I think I can get the socket in the hole just not on the plug. I tried to sand the crap off it but a bit hard to access. The access is easy enough although the windsor plug point down compared to a clevo which the side of the head are upright. Tiny engine though so that makes it a bit easier. I used anti seize which will make them much easier next time. And not waiting 15 years.

The spanner is a good idea. I'll try that if I can't get the extension on.

Nice car, I have a 69 Cougar which has same running gear as a mustang and ive brought headers for it, there is a bracket i brought that lowers the steering ram that might help clearance.  Did you need to get a certification for the seat belts?  mine has horrible 3 peice ones and id love to fit some retractable ones like yours has.

The clearance around the exhaust is not going to be fixed by moving the ram as far as I can tell, it is an issue with hitting the headers or frame as it moves lock to lock. The way the power valve works is the issue. If I was to mod it I'd chuck in a Borgeson Pwr steer kit. I've not heard great things about the Flaming River racks and I don't want to change the geometry in case I mess things up.

The belts were fitted in 1998 according to the label but there is no cert. I'm not sure if it is required as the mounting points are stock but someone might know the regs better. There are some good kits and the 67 and later Mustangs (and I assume Cougars) have mounts in the roof for the belts so are much safer than retro fitting to 66 or earlier cars. I used a business called Auckland Seatbelts and he seemed to know his stuff. I asked about the rears as they are not inertial reel but the reels look a bit ugly sitting on the parcel shelf.

The belts are great though. They do kinda ruin the pillarless look but I like having an inertia reel as I can take the wife and the dog for a cruise and everyone is belted in safely.

I have headers on my 68 and also had to use the bracket to lower the end of the ram. I made the bracket myself.

Word of warning though, the extra leverage that it puts on the bracket tore mine out of the chassis... I had to weld in some new threaded inserts and reinforce it.

Wouldn't lowering it just give more clearance underneath?

I might be a bit simple, but can you not just use some exhaust spooge (maniseal or the likes) in the exhaust joint? Its not like it needs to slip once the clamp is on it.

Also if you paint the exhaust black they won't see the leak

That high temp red RTV stuff would probably hold up better than that exhaust gum stuff too

either of the above works a treat. red silicone looks fucking rude if you are a bit of a messy fella though.
other thing is to ensure they are slipped all the way in, not half way as this def doesnt help...

also.. handbrake. is there a cable thats sticking or stretching?  weird to have to keep adjusting it.   how oftne are you using handbrake??  car an auto or manual?

I could splooge something on but not familiar with the products. I don't like slip joints as a rule though. I haven't been able to to jack it up and have a look yet apart from a quick pic.

Ford handbrakes are fairly chronic for needing adjustment. the cable can slip left and right on occasion. The last time though was sticky wheel cylinders though I think.

ah well looks like you'll be dropping it to the exhaust shop and get them cut the slip off and put 3 bolt flanges with a gasket on. you'll still want to put a bead of poo on them for later too.

handbrake sounds fun. just another ford issue LOL.  if its auto, dont even bother using the handbrake. the trans is enough to never go anywhere in park.   save the handbrake useage for the WOF's.

did you put new wheel cylinder on or just free them up?

lets hope our old girls can stretch out to the yearly wofs and we dont have to panic as frequently.

did they check the brakes on rollers?

for some reason drum brakes and brake rollers dont go together, it seems to be a common issue on cars that stop perfectly fine, but fail on rollers

i had a guy go thru wof check before cert, the car had a welded diff in it and still had a "brake balance problem", ha

i wonder if its tyres or weight on each corner issues sometimes, one of my cars had multple goes at passing - shoes were fine, new wheel cyls, bled it a million times, ended up taking the guts out of the factory prop valve , nothing worked

what solved it in the end was me sitting in the back over the side that was low, and that fixed it

Handbrake imbalance was probably 50% of my WOF fails on my Fairmont. That and steering play. It did have disc brakes in the rear but the same cable system. I assume they used rollers, it was the Moselle ave testing station.

Annoyingly I didn't document what I did to fix it last time. I'm pretty sure they found an issue with the wheel cylinders and purged the whole system so in theory the brake system should be fine which should mean cables this time but who knows.

I'll probably look at some other connection for the zorst but I'll have to see what options they have.
