Kimjon
An opportunity arose to grab a couple rear axles. This is always the hardest part to get (cheaply), and forms the part that everything else hinges off. So: A start was made this morning. The rest will fall into place as my obsession with trademe and car swap meets pays off and I find the parts necessary to finish it (once again, cheaply). Will be similar to the other 12, why change a good thing?

Valiant
@Kimjon can you post a bit of a parts list, how much you expect to pay for each item, and where to find them? I have thought an electric one would be good, maybe with a car battery and a starter motor but the speed controller is a bit of a stumbling block

I have thought an electric one would be good, maybe with a car battery and a starter motor but the speed controller is a bit of a stumbling block I always try to buy the cheapest parts at the time, within reason. Roughly I'd pay: $40 Frame $50 motor $40 clutch $20 chain $40 rear sprocket $20 grips $50 rear axle $60 wheels $90 sleeves $40 number plate $40 miscellaneous These are very rough prices, but about average. I've fluked the odd good deal along the way and normally get a few things for $1 on trademe if not in a hurry. This really helps keep the price down. The odd one has been made for less than $100. Also if you use gokart front rims, you can use 250mm culvert pipe, which is common as and drain layers will freely give you off cuts. This saves $90... Mr Vapour
I have complete drift trike frame here I'll let go for 50 bucks
cletus
What do you do with all these drift trikes? Do you give them to friends? Otherwise you must have quite the collection haha

Each year we aim to meet up and have a race, talk shit, get fucked up and enjoy each others company. Not a bad way to spend a day. I think this is number 13? I don't have the energy to make many more, but probably have a couple more left in me. I'm at a point where I'm thinking my time is better spent on finishing some more substantial projects, like my Harley or Impala. But who knows?
Kimjon
Here's a clip of us fucking around warming the trikes up. For some it's the first time they've ridden one. We then went on to a structured knockout system of elimination. Though towards the end the system went out the window and we just made shit up.
Kimjon
So, I picked this lot up... all water cooled 39cc ~8hp motors. Yes, approximately 8hp! So many parts, enough to make a 4th working bike....and another spare engine for ummm, yeah...maybe, hmmmm???
Truenotch
More like 8hp between all 4 motors? . Please build a bike with 2 engines.

I was seriously considering doing this. What's cooler than 1 motor, obviously 2 motors! But it would be gokart fast and even I wouldn't want to ride something like this at 130kph! These liquid cooled motors start at the bottom end around 8hp, and go upward of 15hp for the top of the line European motors. Very impressive for such small capacity. That's my attraction towards these motors - stupid power from such a small motor...
Kimjon
Out of the parts I got, I made the best out of what I had and put this together today. I squirted some engine start into it and it fired straight up... so I know it'll work. This is likely the direction I'll go.
Kimjon
Put 4hrs work into this today, picture time: Exhaust all sorted. Hubs cut down, latched, re-drilled new pcd. So much work in these...its the hardest part of the build and the least fun to do. Got stance? Stretched tyres onto much wider rims. Sprocket: new pcd drilled, centre bored out, old sprocket cut down and used as a spacer. Engine mounts. Only solved half the problem so far. Need to fit other stuff before finding a solution for the next bit. But happy with progress so far.

My mate nicknamed it "the Somali battle wagon" It's got no working brakes, but engine compression works good enough to slow you down. In that video I was been a pussy, as I'd just fixed it and was testing my fix. Its solid as now.
