Bistro
Hey you jokers, the diff in the KE26 is suuuuuper whiney. I suspect a rebuild is in order. I have a couple spare diffs which have smashed spider gears etc so might good for parts, but I guess not 100% sure till this other one comes out. Do you guys know anyone who can give it a rebuild/tweak up that won't cost an arm and a leg? Ta muchly
KKtrips
Geoff got his rebuilt by Howats I believe and got a good result.
vivaspeed
Yeah I went to Howats. Was reasonably priced - got him to set up a new CWP and LSD centre, fitted new bearings etc. Something wasn't quite right first time around so he put it right at his cost with no dramas. Would recommend.

My name is Russell
Actually he you could apply the same theory to many things in his life, motors, diffs, marriage. This must mean Duncan is basically a munk

BLIZZO
Brian howatt is a magician with diffs. The guy takes LSD's and makes hydraulically actuated diff locks, and builds shit to get thrashed by trails trucks with over 1000nm of torque. If i lived in welly he would be doing my engineering for sure

vivaspeed
I found the best way was to drop in and have a yarn. Leave whatever with him and go back a week or so later.

Bistro
oh hi, follow up on this. Got a hold of Howat, except he was rather busy so was going to be a week before he could look at it. So I phoned up Wellington Automotive Gearbox Specialists (used to be Miles Udy) and the joker Dave who runs it said to take him for a spin. So I did that and he said it sounded more like an axle bearing rather than diff related. He did mention that a diff rebuild with new bearings would be $800.. So I whipped out the axles with the help of Ricks beefy slide hammer (i tried fucking everything and nothing worked, two smacks each with that and they were out!) and dropped them off to my mechanic who cut off the old bearings and pressed on the new. And now it is super sweet!! Thing to note tho, when I checked the bearings the drivers side was grumbly, however I always thought the noise was from the left hand side.
