kdotlowe Posted August 8, 2017 Author Posted August 8, 2017 It's damn tidy. But needs to go through compliance etc. Hopefully isn't too much of a hassle as I do want it road legal. Quote

The XL however, has been imported from Canada. I've spoken to the compliance guy and have all the paperwork so it should be sweet! Quote
kdotlowe Posted August 13, 2017 Author Posted August 13, 2017 Frame finished off and ready for paint. Giving POR15 a hoon. End result was all good! I absolutely hate painting and bodywork so I probably didn't spend enough time prepping as I should have. Worst part was spending 2 hours cleaning the garage from POR15 'dust'. Never again. 3 Quote
GuyWithAviators Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Super lush! So which bike are you bringing to the AKL small bike ride? Hosted by @MopedNZ with myself and @Shakotom. 2 Quote

I'd rather the CL, but I don't think I'll have that complete before then... 1 Quote

The roads are 50/60km max anyway on the route. 2 Quote

Popular Post kdotlowe Posted September 25, 2017 Author Popular Post Posted September 25, 2017 I've done absolutely nothing more on this bike, BUT the XL is now road legal so that's progress I guess. 12 Quote

kdotlowe Posted September 30, 2017 Author Posted September 30, 2017 Touched up all the spots I missed when painting the frame today - turns out the paint shop mixed me matte black instead of gloss. Ended up spraying the whole thing so it matched. Not ideal, but I'm not too bothered. Also started tidying up the wheels and spokes which is definitely the most tedious thing I've ever had to do on this bike. If Auckland gives me some sun tomorrow I plan to paint the engine hangers and throw the engine into the frame. Fingers crossed. 3 Quote
kdotlowe Posted September 30, 2017 Author Posted September 30, 2017 Weather is rubbish so I'm just ticking away at cleaning up parts - making use of the dishwasher while the girlfriend is away. Pulled open the air boxes to discover that they're in rubbish condition. These bikes are pretty sensitive to induction and ideally I'd like to keep standard filters BUT at $300 or so for a pair of NOS filters, it's just not the sort of money I want to spend on a $2500 Honda. I've seen online where people have replaced the filter material with either filter foam or a cutdown K&N paper filter. Will try cut them out and see what the best option is. 1 Quote
datlow Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 Keen to try dishwasher, just need wife to bigger off for awhile what about a honda gx160 or robin ex21 stationary motor filter? 1 Quote
kdotlowe Posted October 1, 2017 Author Posted October 1, 2017 Might be worth a go! I'll have a look into it. Quote
Abarth Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 You can still get the filters brand new from David Silver spares in the US then YouShop it home. https://www.davidsilverspares.com/parts/by-part-number/partnumber_5985/ $45 usd each still ain’t cheap but I usually order a tone of other small stuff like replacing rusted out bolts and stuff too All the part numbers are listed here: https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb175k7-super-sport-1973-usa_model423/partslist/?model_q=cb175 I just put the part numbers in the David silver site and build up a decent shopping basket. Easy to spend way too much lol. 1 Quote
kdotlowe Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 Oh wow. I don't know why I didn't think of checking David Silver. Maybe that's the best option! Thanks mate! Quote
kdotlowe Posted October 5, 2017 Author Posted October 5, 2017 Managed to wrangle the engine into the frame tonight, bloody stoked! No photos as my garage has rubbish lighting, but will update once I get a proper look in the daylight. One problem however. After test fitting the tank I've found that my relocated petcock now fouls the headbolts. It needs to be moved about 50mm back down the length of the tank. Anyone a fabricator/welder who'd be keen to give me a hand? Quote
kdotlowe Posted October 7, 2017 Author Posted October 7, 2017 How the bike is currently sitting. 7 Quote
