Brake Booster too close to carb trumpets

Look how far out from the firewall the booster is sitting though. Can the space not be gained by sitting the booster further back? (I've not read anything I'm just commenting on the pictures.)

Also, some Datsun boosters (I think 510 or 610, maybe even S30 and C110 (I'd have to look at my own car) are slightly "thicker" but a whole lot less in diameter. Find something like that, should be poifekt/enough room for your trumpet/lol cut trumpet you brute.

I don't think this was already suggested. Delete the factory booster with plate thing so you only have the master cylinder. And install a remote booster elsewhere.

With a dual circuit system the OP would need to fit two remote hydrovacs. Not only would this be a big step backwards in braking technology it would result in an overly complicated, less reliable system with reduced feel and driveability that would be at best described as a “bloody plumbers nightmare”. (No offence intended but I have had far too much experience with such systems in the past).

 

My guess would be to relocate the battery to the boot (or rear foot well if it’s a competition car) and relocate the existing mastervac/master-cylinder assembly offset to the left in front of the strut tower. Have a look at some of the early Escort extended booster setups for inspiration.

 

What can I say; absolutely love the car, love the project. 

Shame you’re not closer to Auck.,  if I can have a good crawl over a car  I can usually figure the brakes. (Worked for PBR in Aussi in the late 70’s, APPCO Brake and Clutch in NZ in the early 80’s and have been building/co-driving Targa cars for the last 20 years).  Keep us all informed with your progress.

Personally I would go unboosted brakes like that white one I posted the pic of, fuck with the pedal box, and get the pedal ratios and mc sizes right, add a balance bar and profit. But I can see that for sprak, getting a smaller booster is the best option hahaha

haha this, because the difference is for sparkle to pay someone to do that fucking around, would cost a lot on pingas. I vote just disconnect the booster, lock out the back brakes, start this fucking thing up on doort some tyres into oblivion

Seems 180b/510 boosters seem a lil hard to find in a rush! I can get 310 sunny ones easily - but I think these are bigger. Basically just wanna do skids cos its so close, but don't wanna sacrifice inlet dort. Does a smaller bore m/c make a difference on unboosted setups?

Haha, pretty much. From what I've read, 110 are heaps bigger. No dice. Can you check your sunny one though, and see if it looks bigger than a 610 one? Also any other smaller diam ideas welcome.

I'll have a look at the 110 tonight and see what size that one is/I might have a spare 110 one but I have a niggling in the back of my mind telling me the spare one I had was a different size, for some reason.

That is to say, one of them was small like a 610 one and the other (I think the one actually on my car) was bigger. If I can dig out that parts car one, it could be the golden ticket.

These are the questions that need answered.

Diameter of current one, how much space you actually need and thereby diameter requirements for replacement item. Sure, a 310 one may be bigger than a 610 one but it also may be small enough.

can you rotate the booster? aka move the vac line.

(pull shit, spin drum, attach shit, I think mine is like that)

Then if you still need room, you might even have room in the chamber to notch it.
Of course that means sealing it up perfect again :P

 

A smaller cylinder is your friend if you lack the spirit of karate

I mounted the brake booster on my e30 around the other way so uses the same bolt holes but is mounted under the dash.and just reverse all the fittings. And use the long brake line on sort side and maybe make 1 new one for long side......total cost....1 brake line....if you don't have and others hanging around.

On a side not mine was a race car.....so fuck all wiring and shit under the dash.
