crazy_rich Posted August 7, 2006 Share Posted August 7, 2006 I need some help regarding brake boosters, As you can see there aint much room for a booster in there, bloody rocker cover is in the way, i was thinking about a remote booster but i know nothing about them, or running no booster and a big master. Im not too keen on running no booster because it is a street car and it would just be a hassle. I had a wee check before to see if theres enough room in my innerguard to run a booster and cylinder, made me slightly nervous because my car is going to be slammed as low as its possible, the wheel could be in the way. if i found room though i could make an eleborate series of linkages to push the master inside the guard... now im just thinking out loud. mkcortina Posted August 7, 2006 Share Posted August 7, 2006 have you looked at a willwood pedal box with reverse mount master cylinders. If you dont have much room under the dash you can use short tilton master cylinders as they are half the size of a standard 1 with the same presure as the big 1's. The only problem is willwood dont do a gas pedal so you need to get another brake pedal and modify to do the gas. and the other thing is cost about $1000 i managed to fit this under the dash of my mk1 cortina but i havent finished pumbing it. We got 1 for a mates CA18 esky van, real good quality with AP masters $800 on exchange of yours. Thats for a mk1 mk2 escort one. Youd want one to fit your capri if your paying that kinda money. And thats only half of the fix. Still need the booster, braided lines, oil resevours etc. Whatever way you look at it it is an expensive task to achieve. If you end up going the pedal box way might be easier to try find one to copy and then make one. Or do the maths and just make one from scratch. Saves $800 Hillman is prob the easiest. crazy_rich Posted August 8, 2006 Author Share Posted August 8, 2006 yeah Id looked into the complete pedalbox job, but i cant justify the cost and since im an engineer and my ass squeaks when i walk, making one is by far the better option, I've already converted my clutch pedal to a push type under dash hydraulic anyway. Now, these hillman hunter ones, would they provide enough grunt to push big 4 pot front, 2 pot rear disks? I'm definately interested in one and i think i have room behind the firewall above the acclerator pedal to mount one after having a look today. thminiman Posted August 8, 2006 Share Posted August 8, 2006 someone up there/\ mentioned a mini setup, the clubman i braught had a this system: the master cylinder was exactly the same but pipes where different the mini with no booster went from the master cylinder straight to a t joint splitting to front back. The mini with the booster had a pipe going from the master cylinder to the booster, then from the booster to the t joint and splitting off to front and back, the booster also had the vacuum pipe to the inlet manifold. all in all this makes me think it shouldnt matter where you put the booster, as long as you can get the pipe from the cylinder, to the booster and from the booster to the wheels. as well as the vacuum pipe. being an engineer this shouldnt be too hard to figure out Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
