If you want something to have fun and kick about in without potentially getting pinged for mods then the 24 option is the one to choose, you retain the 20 block so you're all good there. If you're outright after numbers or anticipate that you will get into a game of chasing numbers then always go bigger, right off the bat.

If you're happy and know you'd be content with a little more kick than it has now then 24. Without a doubt.

Just don't get caught chasing numbers or you'll have wasted several thousand dollars.

Forgive me if im wrong but rb25 block with a rb20 crank is doable and a real screamer then you can run either a 25det or 26dett head. i looked into it ages ago too bit foggy on details now decent engine builder will know straight off, few extra cubes and the big head off a gtr would be sweet.

RB30 or nothing

if you mean a 30det then god no, never.

reason being is that itll be good for a short period of time an then itll start to shit it self, theyre only good if you have heaps of spares lying around for it which unfortunately i dont cause my hoarding isnt 13/10

i remember seeing a rb30de laurel on trademe couple months back forgot to screen shot pics of it, had trumpets an all that looks real nice but was many $$$$$ to build

I don't imply turbocharging at all.

Keep it NA.

At the end of the day, what are you trying to achieve?

I would put an NA single cam RB30 in there with six throttle bodies.

I'd then call up Rajab/Matouks etc in Australia as they specialise in SOHC RB30 performance. Slot their uprated parts into a rebuilt $200 Zebra U Pick motor and spend the rest of the money on tuning and fettling. I guarantee this combination will be stronger and more reliable than any turbo DET build of the same cost.

It'll be just another boring old turbo R32 skyline if you DET it. Nothing special/unique.

But that depends on your vision for the car. Entirely up to you. Just my two cents :D

Poor Mans 2jz

But in seriousness do what makes you happy, work out what you actually want to do with the car and go from there

Don't go chasing numbers

Never understood this whole chasing numbers thing, you can have fun in low hp/kw cars an do just as well as a high hp/kw car imo

Not in it for the numbers just wanting something with reasonable power 300hp would do me tbh its a daily an need it reasonable on gas lel

I like where youre coming from a lot but wouldn't want to put a NA in a fairly tidy turbo body which is something that isn't the most common anymore with all the Rfb plebs around, kinda sad really.

would love to do a NA build, hopefully soon if i can find a nana spec laurel

other car is like a 60yr old dudes one with a kitted out 25det link ecu etc etc

i'll give my opinion if it's not too late. I agree with keeping the turbo engine. Like you said, they're getting rare now. I would stick with the rb20det. If your after more power then bolt on an rb25 turbo And a nistune. Perfect for a street car and cheap to do. May even improve the fuel economy with a decent tune. In 10 years it will be worth more, not less.

Also everyone is having the biggest of mares fitting tyres to my 15x10s even though i bought them with 195/55s on them and am wanting to now fit a 205/50/15 or even a 205/60.

Maybe its just tyre guys in auckland that aren't as whorey as tyre fitters in hamilton, who really knows though

Cusco 7 point jungle gym sitting nice an snug inside but it didnt want to bolt up to the seat mount cause it was too far forward so gonna have to get a metal plate to drill through not just the floor
