So i have a few T5 Borg warner gearboxes. I dont know much about them except they are used behind Fords and Holdens.

Im not even sure they are Borg warners, Maybe they are tremecs ?  Whats the difference..

Anyone run one in there cars ? Are they rubbish.

Whats the strenght like compared to a W series Toyota box ?

Finding good information on them on the interweb is hard.

Finding any info for Borg-Warner is going to be difficult, they sold their gearbox business to Tremec in 1998. To be honest they have been fitted to everything from Toyota coronas to Mustangs and depending on what the factory fitment is will dictate how good it is(not).

Factory fitted falcon and Holden boxes are not bad, good for around 300hp but as they get older the selectors can cause shifting to be more of an effort and they will quite often break when being downshifting or big engine braking (with a heavy vehicle/trailer).

World class gearboxes fitted to Mustangs and Camaros are good for around 400, but I found if you going to go to the expense of importing a gearbox then might as well buy a Tremec TKO they shift hard handle big power and getting an awesome clutch is as easy as www.summitracing.com

They would be on par with a W series strength wise.

But W series are much more plentiful and mixing and matching parts when doing a gearbox conversion is way easier.

T5's still get fucking silly money somehow.

Would be keen if you sell a gearbox and have a bellhousing for a Chev/Holden V8 left over.

Theres also a 5 speed borg warner "non t5" that where used behind the 3.3 falcons, mitsi sigmas and some escorts? (not sure). Apparently they are shit house and break easy as with anything over 150hp.

You can normally work out what they are off the numbers on the side. I think its starts with a 5XX-XXXX somthing like that.

Would be keen on a Ford T5 if you are gonna sell any.

Guy I know had a 3.3 XE and put a turbo 4.1 in kept the orginal single rail 5 speed and years later it was still holding together. On the flipside another friend used celica boxes (dont know code number?) behind a standard 4.1 and he broke 4 of them. Really put me off celica boxes I think supra ones are the better maybe.

I knew if i asked on here i would get some good replies!

I have  a complete running EF falcon , a VR commodore and a VP commodore all complete cars with 6 cylinders.

Interesting the T5s came out in Jap cars. I never knew that.

I still have my 20B RX5 here with no gearbox aswell as my 304 HQ holden that may need something done in the gearbox department.

If i sell my gearboxes they need to be sold as an engine/gearbox transplant conversion for around $1250 each.

Thats a sharp price for a commy manual conversion/manual engine. Should have no issue selling them at that price

That price includes everything you would need to do a V6 commy conversion or use the package for another vehicle.

did a job on a xr8 ute on friday, that had the brakes/susp/gearbox from one of those V8 race ute things in it.

Gearbag was a t5, had steel plates sandwiched between the bell housing and tailhousing, and between the plates was steel bars bolted to the outside to strengthen it.

Cool story eh
