Can definitely take the sender unit out of the tank while it's still in the car, piece of cake to do as long as you're careful and don't bend it. Testing it requires a multimeter with it unplugged or even still connected. Either way i can advise you of how to go about it. Also my car will be undertaking track duties so i don't really cars about how low it sits :P

Right, finihsed New water pump, new thermostate, all seals, all new hoses, pretty much all new cooling system except the radiator.

looks like the head gasket is fine as there isn't water loss for now.

Gutted on the timing thing again, ned helped me tune it, set the timing to 15-20 degree runs ok, then I wanted for 8-10, which now miss firing heaps when ever I accelerate, but idels fine.

I do notice I have a melt dizzy cap due to I put the cusco extractor in, could be some damage inside the dizzy as well I guess. would this be the problem? I am guessing the 4age factory timing is 8-10?

anyway, I am going to reread the timing thing you guys told me, and do bit more research online and see how it goes.

errrh, I hate trouble shooting anything electric.

Lingling - I am worried about what you are doing to your car.

Sure I am all for getting balls deep on learning how to work on cars - but considering the amount of money you are spending on this car with TRD springs and the like (so you can have an original car) then I would recommend you find/pay someone who knows what they are doing to work on this car..

A man of your skills working on this car is like getting the apprentice to work on a quarter million $ Rolls Royce.

Buy a nasty old Corolla/Starlet with a 2E or something like that to learn how to work on cars..

After a year of fiddling with the 2E then maybe you can start tinkering on your pride and joy with someone givng you guidance and encouragement.. Its the only way you will learn about working on cars properly.

Just because you can use a spanner doesn't mean shit if you don't know a little of the theory and understanding behind it. Things CAN and WILL go wrong with a little knowledge.

Trust me you (as anyone) WILL make mistakes when learning and its better that you fuck up a shitter than destroy your pride and joy/Grandfather...

I say this respectfully and I'm not hating on you but I just don't want to see you posting that you fucked up something on your pride and joy while learning..

An old saying you should learn is "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing"

But anyways, I can just adjust the timing back to 15 ish would be running fine.

also, going to get a heat sheild for my dizzy cap, I am assuming supercheap, bnt, repco have them?

I doubt you will find a generic one that will work from those places. To fit well you will want to custom make something, I have seen 4age specific ones on ebay. Google and I bet you will find a multitude of advise on the likes of club4ag etc

Actually didnt some MR2's have a heatshield from the factory? dunno if your dizzy will have the mounting holes, but get one of those
